• Sachin Tendulkar is also known as the Master Blaster.
• Sachin Tendulkar, the man who has broken most of the records
in his cricket career is loved madly by the INDIAN and all over
the world.
• He was the backbone of Indian Cricket Team batting line up

during his playing days.
• He is regarded as the one of the best cricketers to have ever

graced the game of cricket and a LEGEND of a game.
• He is also regarded as the true gentleman of the game of

cricket.
I was very very struck by his technique. I never saw myself play,
but I feel that this fella is playing much the same as I used to play.

THE BANDRA BOY
• Spent his formative years in the ‘Sahitya Sahawas

Coeoperative society Housing Scoiety’ in BANDRA and the
place where he first picked up the cricket bat.
• As a young boy, he was considered a bully, and often

picked up with fights with children in the school
• He showed an interest in tennis, idolising John McEnroe.

MAN IN THE MAKING
• To help his mischievous and bullying tendencies his elder brother, Ajit Tendulkar introduced
the young Sachin to cricket in 1984. He introduced him to RAMAKANT ACHREKAR, a famous
cricket coach in Shivaji park, Dadar.
• Ajit Tendulkar, played a major role in the life of Sachin Tendulkar as cricketer.
• Achrekar was not impressed with Sachin in the first meeting because he didn’t played well as
he was feeling self-conscious due to coach observing him , Ajit requested the coach to give
him another chance with observing Sachin play his matural game by hiding behind the tree
and this time Acherkar sir was impressed with Tendulkar’s talent , and Sachin started coaching
with coach in the mornings and evenings.
• If Tendulkar became exhausted in practice , Achrekar would put up a one- rupee coin on top
of the stumps and the bowler who dismissed Sachin would get the coin and if Sachin passed
the whole session without getting dismissed he would get that coin.
THE SCHOOL BOY AS CRICKETER
• At school, he developed a reputation as a child prodigy. He had
became a common conversation point in local cricketing circles
• He consistently featured in the school team in all the cricket

tournaments.
• He was involved in an unbroken 664-run partnership in a Lord Harris

Shield inter-school game against St. Xavier’s High School in 1988 with
his friend and teammate Vinod Kambli, who would also go on to
represent India in cricket. Tendulkar scored 326( Not Out) in this
innings and scored over thousand runs in the tournament.
• During his school days when Sachin didn’t get the BOMBAY CRICKET
ASSOCIATION’S “ Best Junior cricket award” , the legendary Indian
Cricketer and Bombay cricketer SUNIL GAVASKAR, gave him a pair of
his own ultra light pads and consoled him to not get disheartedned.
DOMESTIC CAREER
• On 14th Nov 1987, He was selected to represent Bombay in the Ranji Trophy however he was not selected in the playing
eleven in any of the matches.
• A year later on 11th Dec 1988, aged 15 years and 232 days he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bombay against Gujrat
and scored 100 not-out in that match and became the youngest Indian to score a century on first class debut.
• He also scored the century on his debut match of Deodhar and Dilip Trophies which are also Indian Domestic Cricket

FAMOUS INNINGS
• 98 vs Pakistan ODI at Centurion in 2003 World Cup while
India Chasing a total of 273 runs.
• 118 vs Pakistan at Sharjah in 1996 when India crossed the
score of 300 for the first time in ODI.
• 84 vs New Zealand , Eden Park Auckland 1994, his first
innings as an opener in ODI.
• 175 vs Australia at Hyderabad 2009 while INDIA chasing a
target of 359 in ODI and lost match by a small margin of 3
runs only.
• 200* vs South Africa ,Gwalior 2010 when he scored the
first 200 by any men’s cricketer in International One Day.
• 143 vs Australia at Sharjah 1998 ,India chasing 283 runs
but lost match after Sachin got out. It was one his classic
ODI innings.
• 114 vs Australia, Perth 1992, at one of the fastest pitches
in the world he scored a fantastic century in the test
match.
• 241 vs Australia ,Sydney 2004 in the fourth test of the
series .The series was quiet for Sachin as he was caught in
planning of Australian team while playing the cover drive
and in this match he hasn’t played a single cover drive
THE CAPTAINCY CRISIS
Tendulkar was made the captain of the side in 1996 at the age of 23, but with 7 years of experience
behind him. A poor record, the egos of senior players to manage, and an avalanche of internal
conflict, couldn’t quite dent Tendulkar’s performances with the bat, as he continued to score runs
despite India being blanked by the opposition. In his second tenure as captain, which was thrust upon
him without his contest, India lost a Test series to South Africa at home and Tendulkar’s own form was
taking a hit, and he stepped down from captaincy. Sourav Ganguly took over as the leader in 2000,
with the hopes of building a new Indian team amidst the match-fixing scandal that had taken the
cricket world by storm.

A NATION IN TEARS
• On November 16, 2013, 24 years and a day after his Test
debut, Tendulkar bid a tearful adieu to Test cricket at the
Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. His 200th Test match,
against the West Indies, culminated in a win for India, as
Sachin contributed handsomely with a fluent 74. The
Wankhede was stunned into silence when he was caught at
slip and had to walk back to the pavilion. However, his
rousing speech after the match, wherein he mentioned that
the chants of “Sachin Sachin will reverberate in my ears until
my last breath”, reinvigorated the crowd into a new spree of
the chant - perhaps for the last time ever.
You may have watched the Beatles live, you may have
witnessed Muhammad Ali at Time Square. A select few
living souls may have even watched the Don bat. Yet there is
something unmatched about the rising pulse, the bursting
eardrums, and the blinding tears as one involuntarily starts
to chant along with the enchanted crowd. That show-
stopping icon that enchanted a billion - that emotion that
once entranced a nation - Sachin Tendulkar....
