Middle Distance Running

The 800 meter and 1500 meter are middle-distance running events. The 800 meter is run over two laps of a 400 meter track and has been an Olympic event since 1896, while the 1500 meter is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers and is run over three and three-quarter laps. Both events list the current world and Olympic records. Proper running technique and training methods like intervals, tempo runs, and hill training can help runners improve efficiency and performance. Race tactics include planning pace and using the straightaways to overtake other runners in the final stretches.
