Dear Sir,
Request for the vehicle Permit for the Lecturers and Executive Staff from Eight Years
of Service

Vehicle permit is a facility for the Executive Officers and academic staff members as it helps
to purchase a vehicle for a reasonable price. This is an essential fulfilment for them to make
their duties easier amidst the busy schedule.

Previously the permit was granted for the university lecturers and the SLIAE lecturers after
completion of 12 years of academic service in permanent carder.
Later, in 2016 this was amended giving the permit to the university lecturers from 09 years,
but it remained as 12 years for the SLIATE lecturers.
Now, with the new circular the number of years has gone down from 09 years to 06 years for
the university lecturers, but unfortunately there is no change for SLIATE lecturers and
Executive staff . According to 1/2018 circular SLIATE lecturers have to fulfil 12 years of
service to obtain the vehicle permit.
We are really disappointed to find this indifference because we are also academically and
professionally qualified with postgraduate qualifications. Further, the basic requirements to be
a lecturer are equal to the SLIATE as well as national universities in Sri Lanka. Not only that
promotion procedures and other academic requirement also equal in both entities. It is a
compulsory requirement to complete the Staff Development Programme within first three years
to get the confirmation in the position, which is similar to university lecturers.
Therefore, by considering the above situations please take necessary actions to give a vehicle
permit to academic staff and executive staff of SLIATE those who have completed at least
eight years of their service.
