History
The Lawn-B-Gone Company, a Sylvania firm, manufactured lawn-care
equipment and machines for sale throughout the region. When the company
closed, your repository acquired the collection. LBG, as it was known, was
founded in 1924, and was one of the nation's early manufacturers of gas-
powered lawn mowers. During its history, it had a reputation for innovative new
products, but complaints about product quality began to dog it during its last two
decades. It was also known as an early and aggressive employer of people of
color, though occasional charges of exploitation were raised. When accessioned
the collection was given a basic intellectual structure based on office of origin.
As the records of a moderately sized company acquired as the company was
closing, the collection is in relatively good order, but many series are riddled with
poor quality paper.
