QUESTION 1 (30 Marks)

CO CC>1
(a) (b)
Marks 10 20

(a) Sketch typical graphs of “flowrate versus time” and “pressure versus time” for the
following deliverability tests:

(i) Isochronal test

(ii) Modified isochronal test
(10 Marks)

(b) The following is a result of deliverability test from a gas well:

Duration Bottomhole flowing Flowrate, Qsc

(hours) pressure, PWf (psia) (MMSCF/D)
Initial shut-in 18 1,950
Flow 1 8 1,785 5.0
Shut-in 8 1,920
Flow 2 8 1,680 6.0
Shut-in 8 1,915
Flow 3 8 1,570 7.0
Shut-in 8 1,890
Flow 4 8 1,360 8.5
Extended flow 50 1,235 8.0
Final shut-in 100 1,950

(i) What type of deliverability test is conducted for this well? Give at least 3
reasons to support your answer.
(4 Marks)

(ii) Calculate the values of n, C, and AOF. Write a general deliverability equation
for this well.
(16 Marks)

QUESTION 2 (30 Marks)

CO C02
Marks 30

A natural gas with a specific gravity of 0.69 is to be compressed in a two-stage compression,

with a capacity o f 20 MMSCF/D, at a base conditions of 14.65 psia and 60°F. The suction
pressure is 115 psia and the suction temperature is 90°F. The intercooler reduces the
temperature to 110 °F, and also contributes to a 4% pressure drop.

Ps = 115 psia Pd = 1035 psia

If the discharge pressure is 1,035 psia, find the total horsepower required for the compressor.

[Assume: Avg. compressor temperature = 150°F, (SG)C0IT= 1.0 and (Pls)corr = 1.0] Analyse
this case and identified the possible problems

QUESTION 3 (20 Marks)

CO CC>3
(a) (b)
Marks 6 14

(a) What is hydrate? Discuss the characteristics of hydrate.

(6 M arks)

(b) One of the methods used to control the hydrate from a gas well is using indirect heaters.
i. Sketch the diagram of indirect heaters
ii. Explain its operation and the flow process.

(14 M arks)

QUESTION 4 (20 M arks)

CO CC>3
(a) (b)
M arks 6 14

(a) Discuss three reasons why CO2 must be removed from natural gas.
(6 M arks)

(b) Dry bed adsorption has been classified as one of the sweetening processes available in
the market. The two commonly processes are “iron sponge” and “molecular sieve”.
Select one o f this process and answer the following.

i. Sketch the flow diagram and briefly explain this process.

ii. List one advantages and one disadvantages of this process.
