    THE STORY PLAYSCRIPT.

    The Lion and the Mouse

    Characters: The Narrator, Lion, Mouse and Elephant.

    (Stage Directions: All the animal characters are wearing the animal masks. The
    narrator can be placed on the right or the left of the stage.)

    Narrator : The lion was a powerful beast and feared by all the animals in the
    Jungle. His power was as frightening as his roar.
    (Lion gives a powerful roar.)

    Lion : It is a hot day. I’ll rest now and hunt when it is cooler.
    ( Lion puts head on hands and closes eyes. He breathes rhythically)

    Narrator : Suddenly a little mouse ran over his paw.


    (Mouse comes scampering out quickly and touches the Lion’s paw.)

    Narrator : The lion woke up with a loud roar. He grabbed the mouse with his paw
    and said … (Lion wakes up and grabs the mouse.)

    Lion : I’m going to kill you and eat you up. (Lion roars loudly.)

    Mouse : Oh great lion, good lion, kind lion, please let me go. Please don’t eat me.
    If you let me go, then one day I will do a big favour for you.

    Lion : Ha, Ha, Ha! You, help me! Don’t make me laugh, but I’m not that hungry so
    I will let you go.
    (Lion pushes the mouse away.)

    Narrator : The lion laughed and laughed and the mouse ran home. A few days later
    the lion was out in the jungle. Suddenly the lion got caught in a net trap
    and said… (He is in the centre of stage when he falls to his knees.)

    Lion : Oh dear, how will I get out of here? Get me out of here.
    (Lion looks around the stage desperately.)

    Narrator : After a while he an elephant.


    Lion : Elephant, elephant, please help me.

    Elephants : Oh No! I could not not help you.


    (Elephants trundle off back to the other animals.)

    Narrator : The lion grew cold and hungry (the lion shivers and rubs his
    stomach) and began to think he would never get home to his nice, warm
    cage.

    Narrator : As night came the lion began to cry.

    Lion : Hoo hoo, I am stuck in this trap and none of my friends will help me.

    Narrator : The lion was very sad. (Lion starts crying.) He didn’t know what to do.
    Then he heard the squeaking of a mouse.

    Mouse : Squeak, squeak! Why are you crying Mr. Lion? (Mouse comes from
    behind of the tree. And do the mirrors techniques. Mouse and lion facing
    each other. Mouse duplicates the lion’s movements exactly just as a mirror
    would.)

    Lion : I’m stuck in this trap and nobody will help me.

    Mouse : I will help you.I haven’t forgotten the promise I made to you that day.

    Narrator : The mouse began to bite through the net and at last the lion was free.

    Lion : I’m free, I’m free! I never thought you could help me because you are too
    small.

    Mouse : You are free now. Afew days ago you laughed thinking that I couldn’t
    Do something for you in return for what you did for me. Now it is time
    That you know that little mice are grateful and keep their promise.

    Lion : I am so sorry my friend. Thank you for what you did for me. You were
    Right. Eventhough you are small and weak, you can turn out to be a
    Helpful friend.
    Narrator : From then on the lion and the mouse were very good friends. The
    lesson of the story is even smaller or weaker can turn out to be helpful.
