3 Installing Battery Cables
Scenario 1 External Battery Strings
NOTICE
1. The UPS2000-G-15KRTL/20KRTL can connect to external battery strings. Each battery string
consists of 40 batteries in a standard configuration, and the number of batteries ranges from
32 to 40. The neutral wire is connected to the middle point of a battery string. For example, if
there are 40 batteries, connect the neutral wire to the negative terminal of the 20th battery.
2. When an external battery string is connected, install a DC circuit breaker (63 A, ≥ 600 V DC)
between the battery string and the UPS.
3. When an external battery string is connected, connect positive terminals in series by using two
poles on the DC circuit breaker.

1. A 15 kVA/20 kVA UPS with long backup time requires serial connection of two battery packs
in each group. A maximum of four groups with eight battery packs can be connected in
parallel. If more than two battery packs need to be connected to the 15 kVA/20 kVA UPS
with long backup time, the battery packs should be connected in parallel and then connected
to the battery input ports of the UPS, as shown in the following figure. Battery packs 1 and 2,
battery packs 3 and 4, battery packs 5 and 6, and battery packs 7 and 8 are connected in
series respectively. Battery packs 1, 3, 5, and 7 are connected in parallel. Battery packs 2, 4,
6, and 8 are also connected in parallel.

7.1 Powering On the UPS

7.2 Setting Key UPS Parameters and Starting the UPS to Inverter Mode
DANGER
1. Incorrectly setting battery parameters compromises battery safety and battery backup time.

2. Set system parameters with caution because the settings determine normal UPS operation.
NOTICE
If a single 15 kVA/20 kVA UPS connects to two battery packs, the maximum charge current
must be less than or equal to 2.0 A.

Scenario 2: Non-initial startup
NOTE
1. The preset password is 000001, used to enter the Settings
menu.
2. The default feature code is 999999, used to restore the
preset password.
Perform startup operations: On the standby screen, hold down for more than 5 seconds.
Release the button when you hear a beep sound. The startup screen is displayed. After the UPS
starts successfully, it enters normal mode. After the system runs properly, close the UPS AC output
circuit breaker Q1 to start loads.

8.2 Powering Off a Single UPS
1. Shut down loads.
2. Perform "shutdown operations" on the UPS. The inverter shuts down, and the UPS transfers to
bypass mode. If the bypass voltage is beyond the configured range, the UPS has no output.
3. Open the upstream AC input circuit breaker (K1, Km1, Kb1) for the UPS based on site
requirements, the UPS AC output circuit breaker Q1.
4. For a UPS with long backup time, you also need to open the external battery circuit breakers (if
there are) or disconnect the battery cables (if there is no battery circuit breaker). After all
indicators turn off and fans stop, the UPS shuts down and loads power off.

2 Installing AC Input and Output Power Cables
DANGER
1. Connect the AC input and output power cables on each UPS in the same phase sequence.
Ensure that the bypass power cables in the parallel system are connected in the same phase
sequence. Connect battery terminals correctly.
2. Before cable connection, open all circuit breakers in the parallel system.
3. If the input or output systems has to be changed, contact Huawei technical support if you are
not familiar with the operation. Do not power on the UPS directly.
NOTICE
1. Install short-circuit busbars and cables for AC INPUT first and then for AC OUTPUT.
2. If the input or output system changes, ensure the correct short-circuit copper bar status and
cable connections are applied to the input and output ports.
3. The UPS is a large leakage current device. Do not configure a circuit breaker that has the
leakage current protection function. If you need leakage current protection function, use the
earth leakage circuit breaker recommended.
4. The circuit breakers are provided by the customer.
5. In parallel system, the parallel power cables must have the same length (1 meter or longer)
and thickness and connect to a remote junction box.
6. In a UPS2000-G-15 kVA/20 kVA parallel system using the TN-C power distribution system,
install four magnetic rings on the PE cables on each UPS, bind the four magnetic rings
together using binding tape, and secure them to the nearest place. Magnetic rings are optional.

1. bL indicates bypass input, mL indicates mains input.

8.2 Setting Key UPS Parameters and Starting the UPS to Inverter Mode
1. Set the Language (default: English), System Parameters, and Battery Parameters for each
UPS in the parallel system. For details, see 7.2 Setting Key UPS Parameters and Starting the
UPS to Inverter Mode in installation a single UPS.
2. Set the parallel mode and the number of redundant UPSs.
NOTICE
1. Before starting the inverters, ensure that parallel parameters are synchronized. For details
about the parallel parameters, see the UPS2000-G-(6 kVA-20 kVA) User Manual.
2. Performing "startup operations" consecutively on UPS 1 to UPS n causes them to start. If
you do not perform "startup operations" on the other UPSs in 5 minutes, UPS 1 to UPS n
enter normal mode and the other UPSs supply no power.
3. If no alarm is displayed on the Monitoring screen, continue with the subsequent operations. If an
alarm is displayed, refer to the alarm list to locate and clear the alarm.
4. Check that the bypass input is normal and the system has transferred to bypass mode. You can
confirm this by viewing the system running diagram on the LCD.

5. Perform "startup operations" on each UPS: On the standby screen, hold down for more than
5 seconds. Release the button when you hear a beep sound. The startup screen is displayed.
After the UPS starts successfully, it enters normal mode.
6. After the system runs properly, close the UPS AC output circuit breaker Q to start loads in the
case of a single UPS system. In the case of a parallel system, close the general output circuit
breaker and branch output circuit breakers to start loads.
NOTE
Perform "shutdown operations" to shut down the UPS. On the default screen, hold down ESC
for more than 5 seconds. Release the button when you hear a beep tone. The inverter shuts
down. If the bypass voltage is within the configured range, the UPS transfers to bypass mode.
If the bypass voltage is beyond the configured range, the UPS has no output.
1. Perform "shutdown operations" (for details, see page 9) twice on a UPS in the parallel system
within 30 seconds. The UPS shuts down and enters the non-output state (the mains, bypass, and
battery indicators are off). The other UPSs keep working.
2. Open the upstream AC input circuit breaker (K1, Km1, Kb1 or K2, Km2, Kb2) for the UPS based on
site requirements, the UPS AC output circuit breaker Q1.
3. Open the external battery circuit breakers (if there are) or disconnect battery cables for the UPS.
The UPS exits the parallel system. After all indicators on the UPS turn off and fans stop, the UPS
shuts down.
