a) Define the terms of hearing impairment, deaf and hard of hearing and its causes.
b) Identify the characteristics of students with hearing impairment and the anatomy of
human ear.
c) Give importance and appreciation to the students with hearing impairment.

Before the discussion, the teacher will tell to the students to cover
their ears and try to make a conversation with their classmates for
them to have an idea about the topic that will be presented.

According to the age of onset, hearing impairment can be congenital when the condition is
present at birth or adventitious when it is acquired after birth or later on. The time when a
hearing impairment occurs in terms of the normal development of spoken language at the
age of two thereabout is another classification of deafness.When the condition occurs before
the child learns to talk, deafness is pre-lingual. Deafness is called post-lingual when it is
acquired after the child has learned speech usually at the age of two.
DEAF- do not have a sufficient residual hearing to understand speech without special
instruction and training.
HARD OF HEARING- have enough residual hearing to understand speech and learn in a
regular class without much difficulty.
Hearing impairment is not simply inability to hear or to communicate through speech. The
most devastating effects of deafness is the deprivation of language.
Moves closer to speaker, watches face especially the mouth and the lips of the speaker
