REGULATIONS
“DRUMTIME” International Percussion Competition will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia

from 15th to 20th of March, 2020. Percussionists will compete in 4 categories (Marimba,
Vibraphone, Orchestral Percussion, Small Ensemble), divided into 3 age groups.
COMPETITORS
The Competition is open to all percussionists, without distinction of nationality.
ORGANIZER
The Competition is organized by Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture.
TITLE PARTNER
The Title Partner of the Competition is “DRUMTIME” Drum Show (St. Petersburg).
LOCATION
The Competition will take place at Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture
(Dvortsovaya embankment, 2-4).

● Exhibition of drums and percussion instruments, accessories, scores.

I round: Two diverse pieces (one of them – 4-mallet solo):
1) Compulsory piece: M. Ford – one piece from the list:

Marimba: Technique Through Music (Col., one piece of the participant’s own choice);
2) Piece of the participant’s own choice.
Duration – maximum 8 minutes.
II round: One piece of the participant’s own choice (4-mallet solo).

choice (4-mallet solo);

2) Snare drum: solo of the participant’s own choice.
II round: 2 pieces:
1) Xylophone: original piece of the participant’s own choice (can be chosen from the list
above);
2) Snare drum: piece of the participant’s own choice.

I round: 2 pieces:
1) Xylophone. Piece from the list:
G.H. Green – Valse Brillante;
F. Kreisler/Green – Tambourin Chinois;
G. Rzaev – Concertino.
2) Snare drum: piece of the participant’s own choice (rhythmic, not rudimental).
II round: 2 pieces:
1) Xylophone: original piece of the participant’s own choice;
2) Snare drum: rudimental solo of the participant’s own choice.

I round: 2 pieces:
1) Orchestral percussion: B. Lylloff – Etude Royal;
2) Snare drum: B. Lylloff – Etude No. 9.
II round: 3 pieces:
1) Xylophone: G. Chernenko – Etude-Caprice “Vinegrette”;
2) Snare drum: S. Fink – Intrada (Trommel-Suite);
3) Timpani: Piece from the list:
J. Beck – Sonata for Timpani (II & III parts);
S. Fink – Pauken-Suite (two movements of the participant’s own choice).
4. SMALL ENSEMBLE (Duet, Trio, Quartet – 1 round, percussion instruments only)
The age category for the ensemble is determined by the average age of the combined
age of its members.
Age group A (up to 15): 2 stylistically diverse pieces of the participant’s own choice (mallet
percussion should be used at least in one piece).
Age group B (16-19): 2 stylistically diverse pieces of the participant’s own choice (mallet
Age group CD (20-29): 2 stylistically diverse pieces of the participant’s own choice (mallet
JURY
International Jury will be composed of well-known percussionists, educators and
performers.
AWARDS
The winners of the Competition will be awarded with the Laureate Diplomas of the
International Competition.
International Jury and Organizing Committee have the right to establish additional prizes for
the winners and to award the teachers with the special Diplomas.
The Competition winners can be awarded with memorable prizes and presents from the
Official Partners of the Competition.
REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee:
- for solo category: €50 (for participation in one category);
- for ensemble category: €35 (for one person);
- for the second solo category: €25 (each competitor can participate in two solo and one
ensemble categories).

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation in the House of Student of Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture is
available (participants are expected to cover their accommodation). Write in the application
form if reservation is needed.
