Ambulatory Care

These services are performed at outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, emergency rooms, ambulatory
or same-day surgery centers, diagnostic and imaging centers, primary care centers, community health
centers, occupational health centers, mental health clinics, and group practices. The Medical care
provided on an outpatient basis, including diagnosis, observation, treatment, and rehabilitation
services.Ambulatory care services represent the most significant contributor to increasing hospital
expenditures and to the performance of the health care system in most countries, including most
developing countries. The ambulatory care nurse focuses on patient safety and the quality of nursing
care by applying appropriate nursing interventions, such as identifying and clarifying patient needs,
performing procedures, conducting health education, promoting patient advocacy, coordinating nursing
and other health services, assisting the patient to navigate the health care system, and evaluating
patient outcomes. Ambulatory care is the personal health medical care facility that is given in a hospital
or other health care center for someone who is not a bed patient. This implies either walking in on his or
her own or arriving via wheelchair, crutches, or crane. The word ambulatory care includes all health care
services that are not hospitalized.

Genel Jumawan, a 30-year-old patient with a history of hypertension. Miss Jumawan went to a clinic for
her checkup and her vital signs were normal but her blood pressure was 180/120. She says she's had
chest pain since she was released from her recent admission and now Miss Jumawan was given a
medicine immediately (ACE inhibitor) and she insisted that she would go home because the pain was
relieved. Later at home, Ms. Jumawan was found in her room with a severe headache, chest pain,
difficulty in breathing and was brought immediately back to the hospital.

The nurse fails to advocate a check back for the patient in this situation.
Scenario 2

Appropriate for: All Specialties

Setting: Hospital

A 20-year-old woman with a dislocated elbow presents to the emergency room. At this juncture, the
doctor of the patient decided to send her to the OR for anesthesia reduction. The clerk of the
department is notified of the plan but not the nurse of the patient. Despite proper paperwork, the
patient is transferred to the OR and then later on, the OR department calls to state that the patient has
insufficient paperwork.

In this situation, it lacks communication.

Scenario 3

Appropriate for: All Specialties

Setting: Hospital

Ms. Jumawan recently held a training session on techniques for infection control and the significance of
hand washing and while she was on duty, she noticed that Dr. Lim, without washing her hands, goes
from patient to patient. later on, Ms. Jumawan confronted Dr. Lim about what she observed and Dr. Lim
said the next time she will do the hand washing.
