Project Synopsis - Print PDF

1) Students Tejas Baseshankar, Suyasha Metkar, and Prasad Tayde from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology Pimpri, Pune propose a project on "Smart Irrigation Using Raspberry Pi". 2) The objective is to automatically sense soil moisture, humidity, and temperature and send the data to farmers and a base station to compare to thresholds and trigger irrigation as needed. 3) The system will use several sensor nodes covering the entire field that communicate wirelessly with a Raspberry Pi base station.

Title: “Smart Irrigation Using Raspberry Pi”

Objective:
FOR AUTOMATED IRRIGATION:

1. Sense the parameters like soil moisture, humidity and temperature in environment.

2. This information must be stored as well as must be shared with farmers.

3. Several nodes will be used to cover entire field.

4. Once parameters are sensed, data will be send to base station where threshold values
are present.

5. On comparison with these threshold values, concern data will be send to farmer and
motor will turn-on in order to irrigate field for appropriate time.

Problem Statement
To design a smart agriculture system for reducing farmers work and increase the yield of crops and also
to reduce the cost of the system.

1.2. Abstract
To satisfy the needs of modern precision agriculture, a Precision Agriculture Sensing System is
designed, which is based on wireless multimedia sensor network. Both hardware and software is
designed for sensing in wide farmland without human supervision. A dedicated single-chip sensor
node platform is designed especially for wireless multi-media sensor network. To store the senor
readings online web server database along with android application is being used. Also at the same
time keeping in mind about reducing the cost for developing such system is being kept as our basic
aim.
