INFLUENCE OF TEMPLE

CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURAL SEMINAR
ABSTRACT
We live in 21st century where people have invited technology for easy lifestyle. We live in a
society where people don’t know who lives besides them; their names, place, how many people
are living etc. Where as in villages people know everything of their neighborhood. Here the
lifestyles in extroward type. In urban areas due to modernism the lifestyle of people is intro
ward. The moral values of individuals is seen to be duplicating. An attempt is made to find out
the working of village. What factor affects. One of the factor which provide a platform for
villagers is Temple.

AIM
To study the contribution of temple in shaping the society or the community.

OBJECTIVE
To understand how does community/society work’s and to know about temple etc.
Hence to know the relationship between society and temple.

RELEVANCE
One can understand the functioning of village. Temple is an important factor while designing
village or reconstructing the village (includes also town planning)

SCOPE AND LIMITATION


Influence of Temple can be seen in various fields, scale (from large scale to small scale up to a house)
.Study has been limited to understand the influences of Temples on villages.

METHODOLOGY
Briefly knowing the factors to which Temple has contributed also to know what is community.
Explaining through typical case studies.

COMMUNITY / SOCIETY
Community consists of people living in a limited physical area and who have common interest
and common ways of satisfying them. Each society consists of different part such as individuals,
groups, institutions, associations and communities. It can be simply said that it is an organism
that has different component working together as a whole. Community is formed by resting to
a center used as a meeting place for worship. This can vary greatly as people participate in different
occupation, status, daily routine, the trading of goods, transportation, delivery of a variety of services, or
a combination of all these activities.

TEMPLE
Temple is sacred place for worship or prayer. The Temple has ideological importance in Indian
history, which makes it focal point of processes like culture, social, economic and politics. A
sacred placed where the mind becomes still and soul flow freely to seek the source of life,
peace, joy & comfort. For centuries temple has remained a center of life. A common
community place where people forget their difference and voluntarily unit to serve
society. Temple is a forum for social, spiritual, and personal growth. Temple is center for
overall development. They provide an environment in which to refine various skills and
abilities. .

CONTRIBUTION OF TEMPLE
Temple are not just a place of worship but they also are social institutions an important part
in not just developing the religious belief but also in their social, cultural and economic lives.

TEMPLE AS LEARNING
Besides worshiping the idol, temple includes some part of entrainment which includes some
part of entertainment which includes must & dance. Most of the activities centered round the
village temple music, dancing and theatrical presentations of popular tales, legends, forms a
part of leanings for people for this purpose natakshalas were constructed. Being a centre of
learning, the temple helped in acquisition and propagation of knowledge. Other factor that
temple has contributed will be studying by case study.

TEMPLE AND FAMILY


The family is the foundation of society and the individuals it produces. A united famil y lays
the groundwork for a cohesive community. A Temple instructs on how to strengthen family
relationships and improve the communities. Family seminars highlight the importance of
spending quality time together. Parents enroll in specific workshops to sharpen their
parenting skills with children. By teaching children to value their parents and their wishes,
these programs instill a sense of respect early on. Daily practices such as bowing down to
one’s elders, serving them, and not talking disrespectfully to them are all methods for
improving parent-child relations.

TEMPLE AND INDIVIDUALS


Temple helps in molding the character of the individual by inculcating basic virtues of humanity
such as courage, forgiveness, unity, friendship, honesty, humility, tolerance, understanding,
patience, charity, and universal brotherhood.

AS AN EMPLOYER
Considering temple as institutions it provides works and mean of livelihood for a number of
people. Many servants had to perform various duties in temple and are paid. Professors
appointed to teach the vedas, schools. It also employs labors for temporary work for executing
repair works. Employee appointed for carving transportation of goods etc.
CASE STUDY OF VILLAGE : SARANGPUR, Botad,
Ahemdabad, Gujarat

Everyday involvement of villagers/community. Many villagers


visit temple for darshan of God, devotees, murties as part of
their daily routine. By attaining and understanding the deity that
is present in idol(murti). So beholding the murti is an act of
worship through the eye of the murti one gains the blessing of
the divine darshan is the receiving of grace through the act of
looking upon the divine. The divine lifts the spirit and creates
inner peace of joy, dandvat pardikshina art other forms of
devotion to God where they are involved. They will often try to
attend either the main morning arti or evening arti, villagers visit
mandir daily and offer worship and also learnspiritual wisdom,
by listening to the narration of shastras and their expositions.

FESTIVALS

Some from of worship that take place are more congregational in


character and collective character. Where all people of village,
enthusiastically and willingly participate. This helps in binding
community together provides an opportunity for youngsters to
observe, learn and enjoy the tradition and actively participate
also a platform for display of his talent another form of devotion.
Where people actively participate is procession.

Discourses in Temple assembly hall, devotees listen to the simple


discourses relating to self-knowledge Bhrama and Parabhrama.

Pathsalas / Vidhyalays / schools


Children come to educate themselves free education is provided
also hostel, facilities to stay.
Gavshals Health care camps for castles. Vivid competitions
through the year or during special celebrated days.

TOWN PLANNING DEFINING THE VILLAGE CONCEPTS

Village are out with liberations. It is seen that village consist of well, the temple, the council
tree with chabutara. The alignment of professionals and cross road are all arranged with
deliberations. Town/village or horse will be looked upon such a layout where not only with
sense of beauty and utility is though f but also with a sense of spirituality as well. Village has a
one or more civic center which fit in with the daily life and habits of the people. Each and every
person develops through his long association and contract a sort of attachment to the house in
which he stays and the town in which he is situated. He also desires that house should be
confortable, the well planned town, provided with all amenities and services. Always look for a
placed village/town which is “happy to live in and beautiful to look at” i.e. to vender the town
happy for living, all the basic need of citizen/villagers including services, housing, employment
& recreation must be provided. All of these is contributed by temple in village in some or other
form.

CONCLUSIONS
• Temple is a place of worship, a place for community gathering and bonding takes place.

• Temple plays an indirect role in improving society by improving the state of the
individual.

• For this Temple should have an assembly hall, multipurpose hall, Sant nivas, living

facilities for people, schools, hostels, landscaping and good services and maintained
properly.
