The Multidimensional Emotional Empathy Scale (MDEES)

This document describes the Multi-Dimensional Emotional Empathy Scale (MDEES), a 30-item scale developed by David R. Caruso and John D. Mayer in 1998 to measure different aspects of emotional empathy. The MDEES includes items asking respondents to rate their agreement with statements about feeling emotions similar to others, being sensitive to others' feelings, and caring about the feelings and welfare of others. The scale was intended to provide a multidimensional assessment of empathy.
