Aaa. 7ES LESSON PLAN

1) The lesson plan aims to teach students about producers and consumers in an ecosystem and the transfer of energy between trophic levels. 2) Students will do activities like building a food chain model and brainstorming about organisms in their local area to understand energy flow. 3) A video on food chains will be shown and students are expected to plot organisms on an energy pyramid and describe energy transfer between trophic levels.

7E’S LESSON PLAN IN BIOLOGY

DATE: DAY __ Allotted time: 60 CODE: S8LT-IVi-22

minutes
OBJECTIVES 1. Distinguish between producers and consumers
2. Analyze the transfer of energy from one organism to another

 Content Standard Demonstrates understanding of the one way flow of energy and the cycling of materials in an ecosystem

 Performance Standard Make a poster comparing food choices based on the tropic levels

 Learning Competencies Describe the transfer of energy through the tropic levels

TOPIC ECOSYSTEM

SUB-TOPIC TRANSFER OF ENERGY IN TROPIC LEVEL

MATERIALS Pen
Paper

 ELICIT PROBING PRIOR VIEWS ON PRODUCER

(10 minutes) CONSUMER RELATIONSHIP
1. What did you eat this morning?
2. If you have eaten rice with chicken in which
type of organism in the food chain do you
belong?
3. What about the rice that you eat?
4. In what level of consumer do you belong?
5. If you eat both rice and chicken what are you in
the food chain?

ENERGY GAP MUSIC VIDEO

Guide questions
1. Did you enjoy the video? What did you feel?
2. Do you think there is an energy released?
3. What happened to the food that you eat this
morning?

 ENGAGE ACTIVITY: BUILDING A FOOD CHAIN MODEL

(10 minutes) The students will be instructed to do an
activity.

MATERIALS:
Cut out pictures of different
organisms , glue, manila paper, tape ,
marker
PROCEDURES:
1. Use the cut out pictures to construct
a food chain.
2. Identify the different organisms
involved in the food chain and their
respective roles.
3. One member of the group will
present their output.

ACTIVITY : A TOUR IN MY PLACE

 EXPLORATION The students will be grouped and will be asked to brainstorm about their respective localities.
(10 minutes) The generated ideas of the students will be presented by a Poster on transfer of energy

GUIDE QUESTIONS:

1. What are the organisms commonly found in that particular place?

2. How are they related with one another?
3. What groups of organisms are considered producers and/or consumers?
4. If there are more consumers that feed on one type producer do they get the same amount of energy?
 EXPLANATION 5. How are you going to present the flow of energy in a pyramid structure?
(10 minutes)
6. If there is 100% in a producer how many percent of energy will the first order consumer receive?
Energy flow in the ecosystem is a one-way process. Energy flows from the sun, to the producers and to the
consumers. Producers such as plants, algae and certain bacteria capture the energy of sunlight to produce
food molecules. Consumers such as animals eat or consume producers and other organisms to obtain
 ELABORATION energy. The flow of energy between organisms can be shown by a food chain or a food web. Food chain is a
(8 minutes) sequence of organism used as food and the organisms that feed on them. It starts with a producer followed
by a series of consumers.

 EVALUATION`` The students will be watching a video about food chain.

(10 minutes) GUIDE QUESTIONS
1. What are the organisms mentioned in the video? Plot them on an energy pyramid.
2. You have just analyzed the transfer of energy by categorizing the organisms according to their trophic
level. In your own words, describe the energy pyramid.

 EXTENSION Here in Batangas and other neighboring provinces there were lots of forests and agricultural lands that had
(2 minutes) been converted to commercial and industrial establishments. What do you think will happen to the flow of
energy in those places?
