1.Preparation basis
Construction design drawing of the Bakkhali Project.
Construction site investigation. Including the construction site and
surrounding environmental conditions, water, electricity, roads,
temporary leased land and materials, hydrogeology, meteorology,
transportation, machinery, materials procurement and other information.
According to Yongming’s comprehensive construction capabilities and
experience in participating in similar projects in recent years, various
types of resources and technologies, management, etc.

2.Project Overview
The bridge is located on the COX'S BAZAR to KHURUSHKUL highway and
crosses the BAKKHALI river. The span is 4 x 50 + 3 x 65 + 4 x 50m and
the total length of the bridge is 595m. The upper structure adopts
prestressed reinforced concrete single-box and double-chamber box
girder with a span of 50m and 65m. The lower structure adopts a
vase-type bridge pier with a cap group foundation.
The whole bridge is provided with a construction steel trestle of about
126m, which is arranged at both ends of the bridge. The width of the
steel trestle bridge is 6m. Considering the water level and wave height,
the planned elevation of the top of the trestle bridge is + 7.00m, which is
about 2.5m higher than the designed maximum water level (4.5m).
Trestle bridges and steel boring platforms on the water are intended to
be used only for the construction of the lower structure of the main
bridge. It is used for mixer transit transportation, crawler crane and 25t
automobile crane lifting operations, and SR60 drilling rig construction
operations as working condition control.
The starting point of the trestle bridge is connected with the hardened
access road at the bridge head. The 5 #, 6 #, 7 # piers are located in the
river and a boring platform is required to connect with the trestle bridge.
The steel boring platform of the trestle bridge and pile foundation is
planned to be “L” -shaped, and the structure of the trestle bridge and

steel platform adopts the structure of steel pipe piles + Bailey beams +
non-slip steel bridge decks. The navigation pass is reserved between
the 5 # and 6 # piers.
3.Meteorology and Hydrology
The area where the project is located has a monsoon savanna climate,
with hot, humid and rainy weather. The year is divided into winter
(November to February), summer (March to June) and rainy season
(July to October). The average annual temperature is 26.5℃. Winter is
the most pleasant season of the year, with a minimum temperature of
4℃, a summer maximum of 45℃, and an average temperature of 30℃ in
the rainy season. Tide: The tide of Bengal Bay is a half-day tide. It flows
into the bay when the tide is high and out of the bay when the tide is low.
The maximum rising tide occurred 1-3 hours before the high tide, and
the maximum falling tide occurred 3-4 hours after the high tide. The
rising tide lasted about 5.5 hours and the falling tide lasted about 6.5
hours. The tidal phenomenon in this bay is remarkable, with large tidal
range and strong tide, and the maximum flow velocity is 9cm/s.
4 Design Notes
4.1 General arrangement plan
4.1.1General arrangement plan of the trestle
After the site investigation, the bridge piers 5 #, 6 #, 7 # are located in
the water. Considering the busy shipping route, the fleet size is large.
The steel trestle bridges installed on the entire line cannot meet the
navigation requirements, so the navigation pass are reserved between
the main bridges 5 # and 6 # to ensure the smooth navigation. The
design top width of the trestle bridge is 6m, single lane layout,
multi-span continuous beam scheme is adopted, and its span is
reasonably arranged according to the terrain, water level and trestle
structure.
The standard span of steel trestle bridge is 12m, and 5 spans are
connected by one. The width of the trestle is 6m. In order to meet the
construction requirements under different geological conditions, the
foundation structure is considered to be a single-row φ630 (two
10-mm-thick transverse bridges) steel pipe pile foundation. The
load-bearing beam is placed horizontally with two 45b I-beams, with a
Bailey on the top, and connected by a 90cm frame. The I25b distribution

beam is arranged at @ 30cm, and the panel is covered with σ10mm
pattern steel plate.
4.1.2 Overall layout of the platform (take P5 # boring platform as
an example)
The design of the platform is a Φ630 x 10mm spiral steel pipe pile
foundation with a standard span of 5.5m. The platform is mainly
composed of steel pipe retaining piles, pipe pile connection systems,
pile top beams, Baileys, platform surface beams, and platform surface
steel plates. The steel pipe piles are driven one by one to the design
elevation by “fishing method”, and the steel joints between the steel pipe
piles are welded synchronously to form a integral body, and the Bailey
beam and the steel bridge panel are installed to form a boring platform.
The platform size is 21m x 18.3m.
4.2 Trestle structure design
The trestle bridge has no vertical and horizontal slopes, and the design
elevation of the bridge deck is 7.0m. Due to the complicated geological
conditions at the site, in order to ensure the smooth construction of the
trestle bridge, the steel trestle bridge and the onshore construction
access road are connected by abutments. The abutment adopts the
gravity structure and is casting with C30 concrete. The trestle bridge
foundation is planned to adopt a single row of two φ630 × 10mm spiral
steel pipe piles with a spacing of 4.0m, and the load-bearing beam is
placed horizontally on the pile top with 2-I45b I-beam. There are 4
groups of Bailey truss beams connected by 90cm Bailey support. The
bridge deck structure is I25b distribution beam and σ 10mm steel
plate bridge deck. Trestle railings use 48mm × 3mm steel pipes with a
height of 100cm. Trestle bridges are generally connected across 5
spans. The span layout and cross section of the trestle bridge are
shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2:

4.3 Boring platform structure design
The piers of this bridge are all pile foundations. The boring platform and
the trestle are arranged in an L-shape, and the platform needs to meet
the requirements of hoisting and driving steel casing, rotary drilling to
form holes, hoisting and reinforcing steel cages, and pile foundation
concrete pouring operations.

The platform foundation uses φ630x 10mm spiral steel pipe piles, and
the load-bearing beams are placed horizontally on the top of the piles
with 2-I45b I-beams, which are Bailey panels, I25b distribution beams,
and σ10mm pattern steel bridge decks.

5.General arrangement of construction
5.1 Construction schedule
It is planned to complete the trestle and pile foundation construction
platform within 70 days from December 20, 2019 to February 29, 2020.
5.2 Machinery and equipment requirements
According to the actual situation of the Project, the planned input of
major machinery and equipment is as follows:

In order to ensure the quality of the Project and successfully complete
the Project construction tasks, a special person appointed by the Project
Management Unit (PMU) will timely complete the construction,
maintenance, and repair of the construction machinery as required, and
regularly inspect the construction machinery and equipment to ensure
that the machinery operates normally at any time. Adjust the
construction machinery and equipment according to the construction
site conditions.

6.1 Construction process

6.2 Trestle construction method


6.2.1 Abutment construction
The excavator is used to excavate the abutment area, and the
foundation is artificially cleared before the concrete is poured by a
vertical shutter.
6.2.2 Steel pipe pile construction
The steel pipe pile is a model of Φ630x 10mm. The steel pipe pile is cut
into a steel structure processing workshop according to the designed
length, and the flatbed trailer is transported to the site. The steel pipe
pile adopts two-point hanging. Two symmetrical hanging points are set
on the top of each pile. The hanging points are directly cut into the
U-shaped buckle at the top of the steel pipe pile. Before the steel pipe
pile is transported to the piling site, anti-corrosion treatment is
performed in advance, and the scale is marked with paint on the pile,
which is convenient for observing the driving of the pile. The steel pipe
pile adopts QUY-80 crawler crane with DZ60 and DZ90 vibrating
hammers to vibrate and drive. The driven pile is constructed by the
"fishing method".
1) After the steel pipe pile is erected, casing is inserted into it, and then
the vibrating hammer is used to clamp the steel pipe. The crawler

hoisted the steel pipe pile connected to the vibrating hammer. After
measuring and positioning, the steel pipe pile is slowly lowered. The
steel pipe pile entered into the soil under its own weight. Design the
elevation position, after the steel pipe pile is driven to the designed
elevation, then remove the excess steel pipe; install the top of the pile
distribution beam 2-I45b.
2) A 12m-long bailey panel truss is installed on the abutment or the
completed trestle using an 80t crawler crane, and the Bailey panel
spacing is 90cm.
3) Install the distribution beam @ 30cm I25b and σ10mm pattern steel
bridge deck, and fix the bailey panel to the bridge deck firmly. The
sinking control of steel pipe piles adopts dual control of elevation and
penetration. The penetration control is mainly to ensure the bearing
capacity of a single pile. When driving piles, technicians perform
real-time observations, record the depth of penetration and penetration
of steel pipe piles, and make corresponding construction records.
Install the longitudinal distribution beam and bridge deck, move forward
to the next span, and advance in this way until the construction of the
trestle is completed.
6.2.3Main beam installation
After the steel pipe pile is driven into place, remove the top of the pile to
the design level and cut a slot, and hoist the integrated main beam 2
I45b into the slot. The slot under the steel pipe pile must be cut flat. If
the cutting is uneven, manual cutting is used to ensure smooth laying of
the main beam. Welded stiffeners on both sides of the notch and the
lower part to weld and fix the main beam and steel pipe pile. Welding
adopts the three-section welding method. The connection structure
between the main beam and the steel pipe pile is shown in the Figure 7:

6.2.4 Stringer and bridge deck installation


Six single-layer double-row Bailey beams are laid on the beams as the
main longitudinal beams. The center distance of the bailey beams is
0.9m. The bailey beams are connected to the sheet by standard pattern.
The I25b distribution beams are horizontally laid on the Bailey beams at

30cm Layout, δ10mm steel pattern plate is laid on the distribution beam
as the bridge deck.
6.2.5 Installation of auxiliary facilities
Safety railings are set on both sides of the trestle bridge. The railings
are 1.0m high, welded by Φ48 x 3mm steel pipes, and the column
spacing is 2m. The railings are uniformly painted with red and white
paint and alternately arranged to achieve eye-catching and beautiful
appearance.
6.3 Platform construction method
The platform construction uses the installed trestle as the supporting
platform, the cantilever positioning frame is inserted into the steel pipe
pile, and the positioning frame is also used as the platform steel pipe
pile connection system. The lifting equipment is an 80t crawler crane.
(Use the fishing method to install the trestle. The construction method is
the same as the trestle construction.)
7.Quality control measures
7.1 Survey
When setting out, use a total station device to set out the upstream row
of piles, and then use the pile as a reference to determine other pile
positions. The deviation between the construction pile position and the
designed pile position, the longitudinal and transverse axes should not
exceed 2 cm, and the single pile axis should not exceed 1 cm.
7.2 Extension or cutting of steel piles
The connection of steel pipe piles is completed by electric welding.
During the connection, the central axes of the two steel pipe piles
should coincide, and the joints should be connected. Check the
straightness of the steel pipe with a long ruler when picking up on site.
Welding must be firm, the width of the weld is not less than the
thickness of the wall of the steel pipe, and the bracing ribs are welded
on the pipe wall after the weld is welded to strengthen the connection.
The cutting of steel pipes is by gas cutting without special requirements.
7.3 Technical requirements for steel pile construction
1).The continuity of each steel pipe pile must be ensured, and the
interval time should not be too long, so as to prevent the soil around the
pile to recover and continue to sink. If the duration of each vibration is

too short, the structure of the soil is not damaged, and if it is too long,
the vibrating hammer components are easily damaged. The duration of
the vibration should be determined through tests on different machinery
and different soils, and generally should not exceed 10min ~ 15min.
2).The vibrating pile hammer and the pile head must be firmly fixed
without gaps or looseness, otherwise the vibration force cannot be fully
transmitted downward, affecting the driving the steel pipe pile, and it is
easy to vibrate. During the vibration of the vibrating hammer, if there is
local deformation or damage should be resumed in time and
strengthened to continue vibrating.
3).In the process of steel pipe pile vibration, the surveyor must
continuously detect the pile position, verticality, and control the
elevation of the pile top. If the steel pipe pile is tilted when driving,
traction correction should be performed in time. Pause for every 1-2
minutes and correct the steel pipe pile once.
4).During the construction of the pile foundation, if the geological and
detailed survey reports are too different, the ground is soft, and the steel
pipe pile reaches the design depth and the bearing capacity is
insufficient, the pile depth can be appropriately deepened.
5).After the steel pile is settled, pay attention to accurately measure the
pile top elevation consistent with the design value (such as the material
change of the beam under the pile top, pay attention to adjust the steel
pipe pile top elevation according to the actual material situation).
6).The deviation of the plane position of the steel pipe pile is controlled
within 5cm, the verticality is controlled within 1% L, and the bending
height of the pile is controlled within L / 1000.
7.4 Vibration sinking and control method
1).At the beginning of driving a pile, it can be driven only by the pile's
own weight and the vibration hammer.
2).The stoppage standard of steel pipe piles adopts dual control of the
depth of penetration and penetration. The hoisting vibrating hammer
and pile cap are firmly connected to the pile top plate. After driving the
pile to the design level, the penetration amount of each last 10 hammer
strokes s ≤ 2mm, and the amplitude meets the requirements, that is, it is
considered qualified.
3).The driving of each pile should be done in one go. Don't stop or
pause for a long time. The intermittent time of the vibration of the pile

should be shortened.
4).The duration of vibration is determined by test piles according to
different machinery and different soil properties, and generally does not
exceed 10min to 15min.
7.5 Installation of double I45b crossbeam and bailey beam
The construction of each row of steel pipe piles is completed, and the
cutting of the pile top and the welding at the cutting place are performed.
The position of the cutting opening is in the middle of the steel pipe pile,
and is aligned in the direction of the horizontal bridge to ensure the
placement of the I-beam. Double I45b steel is spot-welded after being
placed in the slot for temporary fixing. The placed beam is welded and
fixed at the position of the Bailey panel longitudinal beam on its top.
8.Safety and civil construction guarantee measures
8.1 Safe work measures
1) Strictly follow project safe work supervision and management
measures as the basis for implementation.
2) Incorporate key management into the safety system of this standard.
3) Establish and improve the safe work responsibility system, so that the
division of labor is clear and the responsibility is given to others.
4) Deepen education and strengthen safety awareness. Construction
personnel must be provided with safety education and training before
taking up their posts.
5) Establish and improve various safety operation systems and
protective measures, and pay close attention to implementation, so that
all construction personnel can follow the rules and laws.
6) Seriously implement standardized operations, carry out construction
of safety and quality standards, and do well in civilized construction.
During construction, serious construction operation discipline and labor
discipline shall be avoided, illegal commands and illegal operations
shall be eliminated, investment in safe work facilities at the construction
site shall be ensured, and clean construction shall be carried out in an
orderly manner.
8.2 Construction safety measures
1) The hoisting and installation of components must comply with the
"Safety Technical Regulations for Highway Engineering Construction",
"Safety Operating Regulations for Hoisting Machinery" and other
relevant safe operating technical regulations, and must provide on-site

safety clearance to each relevant operator to ensure construction
safety.
2) During the construction process, construction workers and
technicians must wear safety helmets, wear safety belts when working
at heights, and wear life jackets on water.
3) During the lifting process, unrelated personnel should retreat outside
the safe range, and no one should stand under the crane boom and
within the working radius.
4) The steel wire ropes and slings used for lifting must meet the strength
requirements and have a certain safety factor; the steel wire ropes must
be inspected before use, and they can be put into use after examination.
5) The hanging point of the steel wire rope should ensure that the
hanging member has sufficient strength and rigidity. If necessary,
support rods or flat beams are added to prevent deformation of the
member.
6) In order to ensure the service life and safety of the wire rope, it is
necessary to add wooden boards, linen or other measures at the lifting
point to make the wire rope at the lifting point uniformly stressed, without
stress concentration, and avoid safety accidents such as cutting or
breaking the rope occur.
7) After the steel wire rope is installed, a comprehensive inspection
should be carried out to ensure that it is safe and firm before directing
the lifting. When lifting, slowly lift the hook, first tighten the rope to force
it, and then perform a trial lift to confirm the safety before the formal
lifting.
8) During the hoisting or dragging process, someone must be assigned
to direct and coordinate the operation. Any unsafe factors and any
illegal operations should be stopped immediately, and the hoisting or
dragging can be continued after correction.
9) After lifting the materials, according to the actual situation, the lifting
worker should pull the weight to prevent rotation and shaking by pulling
ropes. No person or vessel should pass under the suspended materials.
10) Scaffolding should be laid before the main beam is installed. The
railings and handrails should be installed on both sides. Safety nets
must be attached to the outside of the railings and the bottom of the
beam. If necessary, temporary scaffolding should be set up for the
construction staff to use when going up and down.

11) Pay attention to the safety of electricity and fire at the scene. Wires
and gas cylinders should be collected after construction every day to
clear the site and switch off in time.
8.3 Safety precautions in operation
1)Traffic safety on water work
In order to strengthen the management of safe operation in the water,
the section of the river where the bridge is located should be
implemented in the navigable river. The safe operation area should be
defined according to the construction requirements, and temporary
water warnings should be set up in accordance with relevant
requirements signs to ensure construction safety.
(1) A steel pipe pile is set up outside the main pier and pile foundation
construction platform of the steel trestle bridge to drive into the water
and painted with a red and white steel pipe pile traffic warning sign.
(2) Add lighting and warning light facilities at night, and set reflective
signs on traffic warning piles.
2) Steel Trestle Bridge Traffic Safety
In order to ensure the normal use of steel trestle bridges, traffic safety
management is essential. Throughout the process of open traffic, the
abutments at both ends of the trestle bridge should always be inspected
by designated persons. The main purpose is to strictly prohibit vehicles
from overloading, speeding, congestion or centralized traffic on the
bridge, which will cause damage to the bridge structure and traffic safety
accidents. At the same time, the slope connection section should be
appropriately lengthened to avoid steep slopes.
3) Safe use of steel trestle
In order to ensure the absolute safety during the use of the trestle bridge,
the steel trestle bridge is regularly monitored and maintained.
Deformation observation points are set at each mid-span position of the
steel trestle bridge and at the 4 corner points and center position of the
pile foundation construction platform. Observations are made once a
week, and written information is formed. If the deformation observation
data is too large, you should immediately find out the cause and
promptly submit a rectification plan to the Client and the Engineer. After
approval, rectify and strengthen it immediately to ensure the absolute
safety of the steel trestle bridge.

8.4 Maintenance of steel trestle
1) Usage management of steel trestle
(1) In order to ensure the load-bearing safety of the trestle bridge and
strictly prevent public vehicles from entering the bridge, load-limiting
plates are set at both ends of the trestle bridge, with a load limit of 100t.
(2) Speed limit plates (10km/h speed limit) are set on both sides of the
trestle. It is strictly prohibited to cause other unsafe factors due to the
speed of the transport vehicle.
(3) The entire bridge needs 24 hours of dedicated care to ensure the
strict implementation of load and speed limits and the safety of the
bridge body and checkpoints;
(4) Trestle bridges prohibit local villagers and vehicles from passing.
(5) Take anti-skid measures in rainy weather.
(6)When the water level rose to 0.5 meters at the bottom of the bailey
beam, the trestle bridge is closed and a designated person is required to
remove the floating objects.
2) Maintenance management
(1) Observe the steel trestle and pile foundation construction platform
regularly.
(2) There is a designated person to check the condition of the bridge
deck and structure every day.
(3) Check the loosening and falling of the connecting parts of the trestle
bridge and strengthen them in time to keep the top smooth and driving
safe;
(4) Wrap or damage parts of the trestle bridge deck shall be repaired or
replaced in time;
(5) Replace or remove rusted steel members and apply anti-rust paint.
(6) Special monthly bridge inspections will be conducted by the safe
work department together with the engineers and equipment
management departments.
8.5 Demolition of steel trestle and steel platform
After the Project was completed and accepted, the steel trestle will be
be demolished.
The trestle bridge is dismantled by crawler cranes. The steel plates and
sections of the trestle superstructure are removed and transported to
the storage yard for storage.
When removing the bailey beam, firstly remove the positioning card,

wind-resistant tie rod, and diagonal brace of the Bailey beam, and then
remove the connecting pin at the supporting structure of the bailey
beam. Use a crawler crane to lift each group of full span bailey beams to
the truck to the storage yard.
After the bailey beam is removed, the pile top beam and the connection
system between the piles can be removed in sequence, and the steel
pipe pile is finally pulled out. The removed materials should be stored in
accordance with the classification.
