LESSON PLAN
oWe will talk about different symbolism that is used to portray meaning in works of art by
showing examples in the presentation.
o We will present again on how color, composition, and symbolism is used to create dramatic art
in photoshop.

o Demo of Photoshop tools
o Demo of sketching a good composition.
o A hand out will be given about photoshop and steps to take.

● We will show works from Ai Weiwei, Kara Walker, Eric Almanza and photoshop artist Vanessa
Rivera.

TABLE FORMATION:
o With 21 students present in the classroom, having 5 students at three of the tables and then
having six students at one accommodates all the students.
o Utilizing the space outside the classroom, students can freely sit at the tables if they need more
space

o In the classroom at student tables.

Procedures:
SKETCHBOOK/JOURNAL: (_10_ minutes)
o They will be given a prompt asking them to draw a cover for their favorite book, movie or song.
o Once everyone is there at 9:10 we will take attendance and head upstairs to the computer lab.
FOCUSING EVENT: ( 10 minutes)
o We will do a powerpoint on the new project, showing them book covers and imagery that
reflect ideas they can use.
o The students will be given time to sketch out ideas in their sketch book about events that they
are passionate about.
DISCUSSION: (_25_ minutes)
o We will do a mind mapping exercise about book covers and what they think of when they see
a book that interests them.
o We will discuss how to tie in their idea into their book cover and how to relay their message
with imagery.
o Then we will scaffold into a photoshop demo.
o The demo will include how to create a file to drop images in to use in photoshop.
o We will be dismissed for a 10 minute bathroom and water break.
WORKSESSION: (_60_ minutes)
o The students will look up imagery or create their own to scan in later to photoshop.
o Any images found will be encouraged to be used as practice in photoshop.
o We will be taking pictures of the students upon their request.
CLEAN UP: (5 minutes)
● Students will put away writing and art supplies in their homes and
● We will head back down stairs and they will stack their sketchbooks on the cart on their way
out.
CLOSURE: (5 minute)
o Students will be asked about if they encountered any difficulties while creating their
composition.
o They will be encouraged to share what they believe was their strongest part of their
composition.
o If they had any troubles with photoshop
Assessment:
Formative: Throughout the class students will be asked how they are progressing in their research, they will be
asked guided questions to ensure they are staying on task. We will also monitor the class and see what needs
to be changed in regards to seating, classroom behavior, and classroom expectations.
Special Needs Accommodations: (Describe at least 2 specific ways in which you might adapt this lesson for
students with special needs.)
1. ADHD: Check in with the student personally, ask them how they are doing, keep things moving
and have minimum downtime for them so they can stay active.
2. Down syndrome: Respectful of personal space, get to know them, sit by them so they have
some one on one time
3. Hearing impairment: Have the student sit up front close to the speaker, have a buddy sit next
to them if they did not hear or have a question they can ask their friend, and also check in with
them afterwards to make sure they fully understand what the class is doing.
