PI ProcessBook 2014
Version 3.4.0
Please read the online help for additional information on these topics.
Fixes
This section lists items that were resolved or added in this release of PI
ProcessBook.
Coresight Add-In
The PI Coresight Link add-in provides a means to create a Coresight (ad-hoc) display
using tags referenced by the currently selected symbols or all symbols of the active PI
ProcessBook display.
When the menu item is clicked, an ad-hoc PI Coresight display is generated and
displayed in the default web browser on the user’s machine. The ad-hoc Coresight
display consists of a trend symbol configured with all unique tags referenced by the
currently selected dynamic symbols – or all dynamic symbols if no symbols are
currently selected – contained in the active PI ProcessBook display.
Known Issues
This section lists problems and enhancements that have been deferred until a future
release.
If you are a user of Sigmafine and the AF Modeler, be aware that the AF
Modeler is not compatible with this version of PI ProcessBook when the AF
Display Builder is enabled. To continue using the AF Modeler, disable the AF
Display Builder using the Tools>Add-in Manager dialog before opening any
Sigmafine displays. Clear the checkboxes for Loaded/Unloaded and Load on
Startup for the AF Display Builder.
If you are not using Sigmafine and want to upgrade displays to use the new
PI ProcessBook functionality, you should manually uninstall the AF Modeler
add-in before installing PI ProcessBook 2014.
Automatic updating of displays can result in configuration loss and is mostly
seen in trends, xy-plots, and multi-state dynamic symbols. These
configurations can be reapplied and do not result in a loss of data.
Internal Description
Issues
(SCR #)
32954 PI SDK v1.4.0.418 erroneously reports “Already installed” on setup
flash screen.
32811 In some localized operating system versions (seen in Japanese and
Korean Windows XP) the use of the Assign Shortcut menu item will
cause PI ProcessBook to crash.
In order to clearly see these dialogs, you need to disable support for
Desktop Themes by setting the EnableXPThemes key to 0 in the
[Startup] section of the ProcessBook.INI file.
24406 Trace rendering issues have been seen in which the plot markers do
not appear on the trace and a segment of the trace polyline appears
in the wrong location. The problem occurs if the segment is
represented by a data point whose start time occurs far before the
start time of the trend. The ratio of trend duration to the distance from
the previous data point is less than approximately 0.0000013 (or less
than a ratio of 30 seconds to 9 months). For example, the data is:
1/1/2007, value 10 and 10/1/2007 0:01 value 20 and the trend is
defined from 10/1/2007 0:00:45 to 10/1/2007 0:01:15. In this case, the
data values are 9 months apart and a trend is 30 seconds in duration
centering on the second data point. In this case, the trace may not
appear on the markers. The markers are located where the trace
should be.
24783 There are occasions when a Trend's trace remains highlighted, for
example, when quickly moving the mouse off of a trend. Just move
the mouse back onto the trend to reset the highlight.
25417 Enhancement request: provide statistical tooltips for grouped
symbols.
25819 The PI Properties tab, an extension to the Window's File Properties,
will incorrectly count the number of scripts in a PIW and counts may
be blank until the file is resaved. On 64 bit Operating systems
Windows Explorer does not show the PI Properties tab.
25894 The Details add-in does not support dataset names that look like tag
names, e.g. \\server\tagname.
25967 When right clicking a PI ProcessBook file and selecting Open With -
two PI ProcessBook selections are shown - "PI ProcessBook File
Starter" is the proper selection.
25971 Tooltip shown on Trends and XY Plots at the intersection point of
many different tags can create very large tooltips that may not fit
optimally on the screen. Under certain circumstances, this can cause
the tip to repeatedly flash on and off. A workaround is to reconfigure
tooltip statistics or completely disable Tooltip Statistics.
26242 If PI ProcessBook is uninstalled on a system with PI ActiveView, the
PI ActiveView installation should be repaired to ensure proper
functionality. The repair needs to be done to support non-
administrative users.
Setup
To install PI ProcessBook manually, double-click on the PIProcessBook_2014.exe
file. The installation files are unpacked and the setup starts after the file extraction is
acknowledged.
You must have administrator privileges on your machine to successfully install PI
ProcessBook.
In order to benefit from the PI Notifications add-in delivered with this version of PI
ProcessBook, you must have PI Notifications client 1.0.777.0 or later installed.
In order to benefit from the PI Notifications add-in presence functionality you must
have Office Communicator 2005 or 2007; or, Microsoft Lync 2010 installed on your
machine. In addition, Microsoft Outlook must also be installed in order to send e-mail
from the Contacts docking window.
PI ProcessBook 2014 installs the SVG add-in along with PI ProcessBook.
PI BatchView version 3.1.5 and later are the supported version for PI ProcessBook
2014 For best results, uninstall PI BatchView (any version) before updating PI
ProcessBook and then install the PI ProcessBook update followed by installing PI
BatchView 3.1.5.
This version of PI ProcessBook installs or upgrades Microsoft Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA) 6.5. If you already have VBA 6.5 installed on your machine, PI
ProcessBook uses the existing installation and increments the installation reference
count.
Internet Explorer (IE) 8 or a later version is the recommended browser for client
machines to take advantage of SharePoint Server interaction with PI ProcessBook.
Internet Explorer (IE) 10 or a later version is the recommended browser for client
machines to take advantage of the PI Coresight interaction with PI ProcessBook.
The OSIsoft pre-requisite kit should be installed on a target system before silently
installing PI ProcessBook. For silent installations with Active Directory Group Policy,
please consult Support Solution 3136OSI8: “How to Deploy Products with Active
Directory Group Policy”.
The two lines above are the only lines that should be changed in the silent.ini file
delivered with PI ProcessBook. localhost entries for the PI SDK, components 7 and
9, should be changed to reference the appropriate PI server.
NOTE: This version of PI ProcessBook requires .NET version 4, which requires a
reboot of the system. In order to do a silent installation this version of .NET must
already be present on the target system.
For information on installing PI ProcessBook using Microsoft’s System Management
Server technology, please see the following documents. A patch for the PI SDK in
this installation kit is a separate DLL the resolves a PI SDKregistry issue (WI65835).
Using an automated technology that includes this DLL may require a different
strategy.
Configuring ProcessBook installation on clients via System Management Server
(SMS) 2003
How to deploy ProcessBook installations using SMS
How to perform a silent install of PI ProcessBook
The following operating system platforms (with minimum Service Pack requirements
noted, where they apply) are supported:
Windows 2003 Server R2
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2008
Windows 7
Windows 8
Windows Server 2012
Windows 8.1
Note that saving a file in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 2008/2012 to a
restricted area, e.g. Program Files\PIPC, results in the file being stored in the users
Virtual Store folder although PI ProcessBook continues to report that the file is saved
in the restricted area.
The Allow button must be clicked in order to repair or remove PI ProcessBook when
UAC is turned on.
UAC should be disabled to ensure successful deployment using silent installation.
Otherwise, elevated permission dialogs can be displayed by the operating system.
System Prerequisites
OSIsoft products and their installation depend on operating system components such
as Microsoft run time libraries, the Windows Installer engine, .NET Framework, and
other operating system redistributable packages. These operating system
components are available in three prerequisite setup kits. All three setup kits contain
both 32 and 64-bit redistributables.
Server Platforms
Hardware Requirements
Physical Memory: Minimum 128 MB; Recommended 512 MB. Although 128 MB
provides acceptable performance for many, increasing the available RAM improves
performance, especially when there are multiple applications running simultaneously
on the same machine.
Processor Speed: Pentium III CPU or better. A faster processor may help
performance if displays have complex calculations performed locally, but increasing
the installed RAM is more likely to help with general performance.
Hard Disk Space: 300 MB of empty space on the system drive for application files
and registry entries.
In addition to the drive space required for the application files and registry entries,
there must also be enough space available to keep a backup copy of the pisdk.msi
and ProcessBook.msi files. Even after the product is uninstalled the backup copy still
exists. This copy is deleted only when the system is rebooted.
Software Requirements
Only the OSIsoft and Microsoft components previously identified are required to run
PI ProcessBook.
Note that the setup kit includes Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assembly (PIA) for
Office XP (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.dll) for use with Notifications.
PI ProcessBook can be removed from your system by selecting it for removal in the
Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel for Windows 2003, or the Programs
and Features Control Panel for Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008 or later. You
must have administrator privileges on your machine to successfully uninstall PI
ProcessBook.
If PI ProcessBook is uninstalled on a system with PI ActiveView, the PI ActiveView
installation should be repaired to ensure proper functionality. The repair needs to be
done to support non-administrator users.
The following tables list the files installed by the PI ProcessBook 2014 installation
program.
