    Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. - better known as Buck - set out to prove you don't have to be in Nashville to hit it big in
    country. After years of working honky-tonks, he delivered 15 consecutive No. 1 songs in the 1960s, including "Act
    Naturally," "Under Your Spell Again," and "Above and Beyond." His Bakersfield sound, named for his adopted
    hometown, is discussed in "The Life and Times of Buck Owens" at 8 p.m. Wednesday on TNN.

    Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakam, Joe Diffie, Marty Stuart, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, and others comment on
    Owens and his accomplishments.

    `SINBAD' OPENING

    Actress Jacqueline Collen is leaving her role as the sorceress Maeve on the hit syndicated series "The Adventures
    of Sinbad." The show shoots in South Africa, and she needs to spend more time with her son here. The search is
    on for her replacement.

    Producer David Gerber says he is conducting a worldwide talent search for an actress who is "fit, fun-loving, and
    feisty" - and someone who would transplant herself to South Africa for the show's eight-month shooting season.
