Explain how the book appeals to children, their interests, developmental levels, fun
illustrations etc. Give specific examples from the book:
The book, Peter Pan, appeals to children in so many ways. It has lots of action, adventure,
and fantasy within the book from sword fighting, flying, a fairy, fairy dust, walking the plank,
and much more. The book even has a Crocodile in it that swallowed Captain Hook’s hand
and a clock. Every time the crocodile comes near, Captain Hook knows because he can hear
the clock ticking.
According to Jean Piaget, in the preoperational stage, the fantasy and imaginative play help
develop cognitive skills. The fantasy and imaginative play are created in the book multiple
ways. An example is Tinker Bell and her fairy dust. The fairy dust mixed with a happy
thought allows the children to fly. Another example is Never Land. Never Land is a place
where kids can remain kids for their whole life. They never grow up. They can play and enjoy
life.
The emotion is shown well in the illustrations. The illustrations when Wendy and her
brothers are flying to Never Land show happiness on their face. Their faces have grins from
ear to ear. When the Crocodile is looking into the Jolly Roger, the Crocodile’s tongue is
hanging outside its mouth. His eyes are looking straight at Captain Hook. It makes the
crocodile look as if to say, “Ha, I am here to get you!” Captain can be seen on the ship
looking back at Crocodile, with his mouth hanging open, holding onto the ropes, looking like
he is screaming and fearful.
The illustrations are bright, inviting, and an array of colors. The illustrations bring the book to
life. The illustrations show what the text is saying and more.
