Time: 30 minutes
Lesson Objective: Understand the level of doubt and certainty of sentences and be able to
express the students’ feelings about an online final examination in an email.
Language Skills:
Words and phrases that express doubt and certainty
Vocabulary: of course, absolutely, definitely, might, think, perhaps, maybe, not sure,
doubt, possible, no chance
Life Skills:
Be able to write an email about what the students feel about taking a final examination
online by using words that express doubt and certainty

Equipment:
- Laptop with a camera and microphone (for an online class)
Warm-Up/Review (5 minutes)
1. Suggest some examples of words and phrases that express doubt and certainty.
2. Have the students say more words and phrases that express doubt and certainty.
3. Write their answers on the board.
Introduction
“Today we are going to learn how to express doubt and certainty in English.”
Presentation (7 minutes)
1. Read the direction for section 1 on page 45 in the textbook and explain the rules of the
activity.
2. Have one student read the first question.
3. Have other students to answer the level of certainty for each answer.
4. Write the answers on the screen.
5. In the same way, read the questions and answer for the second and third questions.
Evaluation (8 minutes)
1. Explain the rules of the activity. Students got an email from their professor asking them
about what they think about having an online final examination next week. They are
supposed to write an email to answer the question using the words and phrases they
learned in the class.
2. Take 5 minutes to write an email and have them share their emails on the chat.
3. Have all students to read their email aloud.
