PREPARE AND CREATE AN INSTALLER

Learning Objectives:

After reading and executing this Information Sheet you should be able to:

1. Create a USB flash drive or CD/DVD Installer

Prepare Installer
Requirements:
USB Flash Drive
Windows ISO Image (Windows 7 for easy downloading)
Rufus application
Computer or Laptop Set
Internet for downloading

Create USB Flash Drive Installer using Rufus


1. Run Rufus application.
2. From the device drop down menu select your USB flash drive
3. For partition scheme. Select “GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer” if
you have a UEFI enabled BIOS, otherwise select “MBR partition scheme
for BIOS and UEFI computer”.
4. For file system select Fat 32 if your windows ISO file size is below 4 GB
else choose NTFS. For a UEFI bios it is compulsory to have a FAT32 file
system.
5. Leave the cluster size at default and check the quick format option.
6. Check “Create a bootable disk using” and select ISO image and select the
Windows ISO image.
7. Check “Create extendable label and icon”
8. Now click on start to create your bootable Windows USB flash drive.
Create CD/DVD Operating System Installer:
Requirements:
Blank CD or DVD
DVD Writer
Nero application
Operating System ISO image

1. Copy the ISO image to a folder on your computer.


2. Insert a blank CD/DVD in your DVD-RW drive.
3. Start Nero Burning
4. Follow the wizard steps to select Data CD/DVD creation.
5. Click Burn Image on the Menu.
6. In the Open dialog box, select the ISO file, and then click Open.
7. In the wizard, click Burn to write the image to the CD or DVD.

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION:
Performance Task: Creating a Bootable Installer
(Performance rubric will be used to rate students’ performance)
