Emergency Actions Code:Btpp/Turbine/011/Emergency Actions A.Actions To Be Taken in Case of Both CW Pumps Tripping

1. The document provides emergency action guidelines for a turbine power plant in the event of both circulating water pumps tripping or a supply failure. 2. It outlines specific actions to take such as tripping the turbine, closing valves, monitoring vacuum, and preparing pumps to restart. 3. It also lists the proper sequence to restart equipment once power is restored such as starting pumps, fans, and bringing systems like boiler feed back online in stages.

EMERGENCY ACTIONS

CODE:BTPP/TURBINE/011/EMERGENCY ACTIONS

A.ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE OF BOTH CW PUMPS TRIPPING

The following actions have to be taken immediately in case of tripping of

both Circulating Water Pumps leading to pressure rising in condenser and
subsequent rupture of LP Turbine explosion diaphragm.

1. Trip the Turbine if it is in Service.

2. Close LP Bypass valve to avoid pressurizing of condenser.

3. Monitor the Vacuum. If it is raising above 0.6 ata Open Vacuum

Breaker valve & Pilot ejector air valve ( at 5 ML ).

4. Otherwise wait for turbine speed to come below 1000 rpm and Open
Vacuum Breaker valve & Pilot ejector air valve (at 5ML).

5. Keep HP Bypass system in service to avoid RH1 coil starvation.

6. RH startup vents has to be opened to avoid RH safety valve opening.

7. Close gland seal steam isolation valve (AS - 9) and Steam to Ejectors
isolation valve near PRDS station.

8. Close all drains leading to condenser.

9. Close CRH to seals isolation valve at 5 ML.( CRH – 7)

10. Open drain before seal steam control valve at 5 ML.

11. Open atmospheric drain in steam to ejector line at 5 ML.

12. Open condenser raw water vents 4 nos.

13. Prepare the CW Pumps for starting as soon as the cause for tripping
is made alright.

14. Open the drains connected to atmospheric flash tank.

B.GUIDELINES FOR ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE OF SUPPLY FAILURE

The following actions have to be taken immediately in case of power supply

failure resulting in tripping of all running equipments and unit leading to
pressure rising in condenser and subsequent rupture of LP Turbine explosion
diaphragm.
1. Close LP Bypass valve to avoid pressurizing of condenser.
2. Monitor the Vacuum if it is rising above 0.6 ata Open Vacuum Breaker valve &
Pilot ejector air valve manually, at 5ML.
3. Otherwise wait for turbine speed come to less than 1000 rpm and Open Vacuum
Breaker valve & Pilot ejector air valve manually, at 5ML.
4. Close Main Ejector steam valve manually to avoid starvation of tubes.
5. Start DG set from Unit Control Panel / Electrical control panel (if not started in
auto)
6. Start DC EOP from Local /Unit Control Panel at UCB or DCS.
7. Ensure Emergency Cooling water Pump is in service in open circuit.
(Ensure DMCW valve DMCW 002 & 003 close and EDMCW valve DMCW 001 and
004 Open).

8. Start Emergency Instrument air compressor.

9. Start one EDM Water pump.
10. CBD and isolation valves have to be fully closed.
11. Start Emergency BFP from Unit Control Panel / DCS and Open discharge valve
and maintain a FW flow of about 40 T/Hr to maintain normal Drum level,
through low load control valve.
12. Close all drains connected to LPFT, HPFT, TFB-1 and TFB-2 to avoid pressurizing
of condenser.
13. Open all drains connected to atmospheric flash tank.
14. Start DC LOP at Turbine speed of 600 rpm from Local/Unit Control Panel or
DCS. (if not started in auto)
15. Close gland seal steam isolation valve (AS - 9) and Steam to Ejectors isolation
valve near PRDS station.

16. Close CRH steam to seals isolation valve at 5 ml.( CRH – 7)

17. Open atmospheric drain in steam to Ejector and steam to seals lines(at 5ML).

18. Ensure at least one ID Fan inlet damper in open condition for natural cooling of
combustor through chimney.

19. Do not close any spiess valve if it is in open condition. The combustor spiess
valve may be closed after starting PA Fan. FBHE-2 spiess valve may be closed
after starting FBHE-2 Bundle chamber blower. The other 4 spiess valves may be
closed after starting EC blower and Seal Pot blowers.

20. Keep HP Bypass in service to cool the RH-I coils and also to avoid the Safety
valve opening.

21. Open RH start up vents (if not open on SG Cool down Logic).

22. APRDS has to be kept in service to supply steam to Deaerator.

23. Open the condenser raw water vents 4nos.(to be closed after any one CWP is
taken into service).

24. Prepare CW pumps for starting as soon as supply is resumed.

25. Confirm that the TG rotor is on STG, if not, hand baring to be done periodically.

26. Pay attention on Dearator level, pressure and hot well level.

27. Check for any abnormality.

C.SEQUENCE OF EQUIPMENTS TO BE STARTED ON RESUMPTION OF SUPPLY

1. Ensure the condition of CW 03 /CW 04(condenser B side). If open, close

both valves and open CW 01 / CW02(condenser A side).
2. One fire hydrant pump
3. One hot well make up pump.
4. One DMCW pump.
5. One instrument air compressor.
6. One CW pump.
7. One ACW pump.
8. One DMCW booster pump after restoring the normal circuit.
9. One ID Fan with back pass inlet pressure at -1 mbar.
10. One purge & seal air blower.

11. One service air compressor.
12. AC plant
13. One MOP and one LOP
14. Keep STG in service.
15. ALOP of both BFPs.
16. Confirm running of Turbine oil pumps and STG.
17. CEP
18. BFP
19. Further equipments according to requirements(depending upon Unit
condition – light up/short shutdown/long shutdown).

D.EQUIPMENTS TO BE STOPPED AFTER RESUMPTION OF POWER SUPPLY

1. Emergency Boiler Feed Pump.(Confirm stopping of AOP after 10 minutes).
2. Emergency Cooling Water Pump.
Close DMCW-001 & DMCW-004 and open DMCW-002 & DMCW-003.
3. Emergency DM Make up Pump.
4. DG Set.
5. DCEOP & DC Lift Oil Pump, if they are in service.
6. Emergency Instrument Air Compressor.
7. Confirm Emergency DM Make up station LCV and Bypass in close condition.

NOTE:
DMCW- 001 : ECW inlet to Spiess valve header.
DMCW- 004 : ECW outlet from Spiess valve header to atmosphere.
DMCW- 002 : DMCW inlet to Spiess valve header.
