General Dental Clinic Requirements

 Dental clinic should be administered in a manner to ensure high-quality health services while
recognizing patient rights.

 Dental facility should be clean and properly maintained and have adequate lighting and
ventilation. The space allocated for a particular function or service should be adequate for the
activities performed.

 In general Dental clinic shall comprise at least the following:

1- Reception area viewing the waiting area


2- Separate waiting area for males and females with space area not to be less than 3m x 3m
3- Toilet (minimum of two) one for males and the other for females
4- Dental room with space area not be less than 14 square meters (3.5 m x 4 m)
5- Sterilization room (if more than one dental operatory room)
6- Compressor room (small), for the compressor and the suction machine
7- Dirty utility room (small room)
8- Designated area for waste collection, either small room or special container with lock

 The physical layout of dental clinic should be arranged to assure its easy cleaning. Floor,
walls and ceiling of the dental room should be made from smooth nonporous material that
doesn’t support the harbour of dirt, micro and macro organisms.
 In the dental room shall be smooth curved lines without angles.
 All piping and conduit for cables are to be laid under the floor and to come out from the floor
in the appropriate positions
 The dental system must incorporate/have a built-in amalgam collector to reduce pollution.
 Local valid contract for the dental unit and equipment maintenance.

 Dental staff ratio shall be based on the dental clinic activity. In general for each licensed
dentist providing dental services to a patient at least one Dental Assistant (DA) or Registered
Nurse (RN) shall be available with the dentist.
