RULE # SPELLING RULE EXAMPLE


1 For most adjectives or adverbs add -er + than tall → taller than
short → shorter than
fast → faster than

2 If the adjective or adverb ends in -e, add -r + white → whiter than

large → larger than

3 If the adjective or adverb ends in a consonant big → bigger than


preceded by a vowel, double the last fat → fatter than
consonant and add -er + than. thin → thinner than
