INTRODUCTION:
Sub-soil investigation was carried out at the site of investigation for the proposed
Construction of RCC Bridge at A2 Nallah, Chainage-7.20km under EEPWD, Seijosa PWD Sub-
Division, East Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh-790103.
Altogether three (03) numbers of boreholes were drilled at the site of investigation
upto the depth 25m from existing ground level for BH-1, BH-2&BH-3 respectively. Borehole
points are shown in the site plan which enclosed this report. Sub-soil investigation was
carried out at the site of construction to ascertain the physical and engineering properties for
the purpose of construction.
OBJECTIVE:
This report describe the finding of sub-soil investigation and laboratory tests
conducted on these soil sample and the data required for design of foundation together with
recommended allowable bearing capacity for the structure and assessment of soil strata for
construction ,design and estimation.
BORING PROCESS:
All the boreholes were drilled by using wash/drill boring technique operated manually upto
the depth of 25m from existing ground level for BH-1, BH-2&BH-3respectively.
SAMPLING:
Representative soil samples collected from boreholes were confirming to IS code in
categories Disturb Sample & undisturbed sample.

FILED INVESTIGATION:
The site is a plane land and three boreholes were drilled up to 25m from existing
ground level for BH-1, BH-2&BH-3 respectively. Field identification such as colour, change
of strata etc. were made visually during the time of field investigation and recorded in the
borehole chart.
In this proposed construction site N-values are also graphically represented in
borehole log enclosed with this report.
SEISMIC ACTIVITY:
The proposed construction site is located in an earthquake zone and falls in seismic
zone V with seismic co-efficient of 0.36 as per IS: 1893-2002
LABORATORY INVESTIGATION:
For proper identification & classification of the sub-soil strata and for deriving
adequate information regarding its relevant Geo-technical properties of the site under
investigation, the following laboratory tests were conducted on the soil samples collected
from boreholes-
a) Grain Size Analysis for identify the type of soil at various depth using Sieving
method.

INTERPRETATION OF SOIL PARAMETER &HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS
Basic data:
BH No.1 : RL 100.1m
BH No. 2 : RL 99.9m
BH No. 3 : RL 98.3
HFL : RL 99.9m
LBL : RL 96.1m
LWL : RL 97.3m
Silt factor:
The silt factor of bed material was worked out using Lacey’s regime theory considering
weighted average particle size
f = 1.76√m
Where,
f = Silt factor
m = mean dia of particle in mm
Where,
m = 1/3 (D20 + D50 + D80) = mean particle size in mm
According to IRC-78 code, for the soil having < 15° and c > 0.2 kg/cm2, then the silt factor
f = F (1 + C)
Where,
C = cohesion
F = Arbitrary constant w.r.to Ф
The silt factor of river bed material was found to in the range of 1.00 to 1.02 as such a
silt factor of 1.00 (average)was adopted for estimating scour depth.

& Minimum depth of Foundation for Pier = 10.64m below the HFL
i.e. The Estimated Minimum depth of the foundation for pier at RL 89.26m.
Or,
Where
Ap = Cross-sectional area of pile tip in m2

BORED CAST IN-SITU RCC PILECALCULATION
From the various parameter of the above data, the pile calculation as follows-
Page | - 12 -
SAFE LOAD ON RRC PILE FOR ABUTMENT
(Area covered by BH-1 & BH-2)
Page | - 13 -
17.0 302.35 453.53 40.50
1500 19.0 385.34 578.02 53.41
21.0 418.72 628.08 55.72
A Bored cast in-situ RCC pile section of 1200 mm shaft diameter resting at 24.0 m
having a cut-off of 1.00 m may be recommended as follows-
For Abutment
Safe working load (non-seismic) =136.61ton/Pile
Safe working load (seismic) =204.92 ton/pile
Safe uplift working load (non-seismic) = 22.42 ton/pile
For pier
Safe working load (non-seismic) =138.25ton/Pile
Safe working load (seismic) =207.38 ton/pile
Safe uplift working load (non-seismic) = 22.69 ton/pile
However, the type of foundation and depth may be decided by the design
engineer based on various data furnished in the report for safety and economy.
Also, appropriate reduction of safe loads shall be required to be made using suitable
group efficiency factor inconsonance with pile group geometry. A design tie-beam shall be
provided at pile cap level at mutually perpendicular direction.In case of employment of pile
foundation the following provisions shall carefully be incorporated in the design which shall
form apart of structural analysis:
An initial load test (both single and in group) during peak monsoon shall be
conducted for authentication of theoretical values. Random routine load test shall
preferably be carried out to ascertain the actual soil-pile behavior under vertical and
horizontal loadings.
Mud circulation boring shall be taken resorted to using suitable boring fluid (unit wt.
Not less than 1.20 MT/M3) to arrest caving in and wall instability.
Adequate grade of concrete considering zero lateral support upto a depth of 3.0M
below the existing ground surface level.
Also, some important parameter/data of the construction area may be recommended for
design purpose –
Seismic co-efficient of 0.36 shall be considered adequate in all respect for design &
construction of the proposed structure as per IS: 1893.
Water table of the construction area mentioned in the soil investigation report and the
expected sub soil water level may be little rising up.
Type of structure is RCC

Foundation level of all structure has mentioned in safe bearing pressure chart of this
report.
Value of C (Cohesion)=0.00kg/cm2 and
