Relay Protection Setting For Preparing Report

This document provides relay settings for protection of motors connected to a 6.6kV feeder and substation 24. It includes settings for: 1. A 250kW motor protected by an ABB REM615 relay with settings for phase overcurrent protection of 0.28 In and time dial of 0.3. 2. Negative sequence overcurrent protection is disabled for the motor. 3. Settings are provided for various motor protection functions including thermal overload, startup supervision, locked rotor, etc. Time delays and pickup values are specified. 4. Settings shown are for adoption for the 6.6kV outgoing motor feeder to the 250kW motor.

The unbalance protection based on the negative-sequence over-current protection for motors protects electric motors
from phase unbalance. A small voltage unbalance can produce a large
negative-sequence current flow in the motor.

Pickup value 0.07In Amps
Operating Curve type IEC Def. Time
Trip Delay time 3 Sec
Reset time delay 20 m Sec

Motor Locked RotorProtection (51 LR)

The motor load jam protection is used for protecting the motor in stall or mechanical jam situations during the running
state.

When the motor is started, a separate function is used for the startup protection, and jam protection is normally blocked
during the startup period

Operation On
Pickup value 0.5In Amps
Operating Curve type IEC Def. Time
Trip Delay time 3Sec
Reset time delay 30 m Sec

Motor startup supervision (66)

Number of starts limitation and Prolonged starting

The motor startup supervision function is designed for protection against excessive starting time

And locked rotor conditions of the motor during starting. For a good and reliable operation of the motor, the thermal
stress during motor starting is maintained within the allowed limit.

Motor Start-up detection.

Start detection value shall be1.5 times rated current if1.5 times value of rated current is less than starting current value
then start detection value shall be 0.8times rated current.

Restart inhibit time

Time delay between consecutive startups

This time is activated a teachmotor start and it prevents new starting until the set time is elapsed. i.e., this ensures that
motor is not started too frequently even if the thermal over load or cumulative
counter allows it, this stetting shall be based on process requirement.

Operation On
Motor Start-up time 1 Sec
Locked rotor time 10Sec
Operation mode IIt
Restart inhibit time

Thermal Overload Protection for Motors (49m)

Thermal over load protection is intended to limit the motor thermal level to predetermined values during the abnormal
motor operation conditions. This prevents a premature motor insulation failure.
