CELTA Online Unit 19 Task 2: A Student Profile

In order to teach the writing skill effectively, a number of things need to be considered. These include
the students’ needs and an understanding of what constitutes a written text.

In the following screens there will be an examination of what constitutes a written text, based on a piece
of writing by a student, Jaehun. First, listen to an interview with Jaehun. While you listen, complete the
student profile below.

a. What class is her currently taking? He is studying for the Cambridge ESOL FCE exam.
This is an Upper-Intermediate (B2) level general
English exam, which includes a Writing paper.
b. Why is he learning English? In order to get a job when he returns to Korea.

c. What does he need to write? To write business emails when working for a
company in Korea. Although he did not mention it
in the interview, Jaehun will also need to write a
range of different genres for the FCE Writing exam.
These include writing informal and formal letters, a
report and a review.
