The value of specific skills in the labour market
 From a company recruiter point of view, who is selecting candidates for a company
doing business internationally, which attribute do you think is more important?
 Holding a Master and/or PhD degree OR
 Being fluent in English

 A skill needs to be practiced. However, first, you must define it as your goal, as your
motive

 Worldwide, the fluency in English is strongly linked to job opportunities, career


progress and better paid jobs.

What the data says…

 According to a report from the Inter-American Development Bank (2012),


in Chile only 2% of the adult population speaks fluent English.

The mistake of many is to refuse to speak, says Roberto Guerra, marketing


manager of Education First. “This is very frequent in the culture of the
typical Chilean, the fear of making mistakes. Making mistakes and
choosing not to speak”, he says, when the opposite is advisable, to
practice a lot.

Project grades will be weighted according to the
contribution of each member
 The contribution means a good performance for the team
professionalism, being a good team member, fulfilling commitment and
responsibilities.
 For example, if the grade of Group A on the Preliminary Report is 6.0,
then the individual grades are

Case study reports

 The average of the four case study reports/videos counts for 35% of the final
grade.

 For students who have excused and certified their absence to the Secretary
of Undergraduate Studies (“Secretaría de Estudios”), the corresponding
“Report” has to be submitted once the student is back. The professor has to
be notified promptly of such absence, otherwise the student will be graded
with the minimum score, equal to 1,0.
