Oracle Unbreakable Linux and more

Eyal Shani, CTO Oracle

Today we’re going to be talking about Oracle Unbreakable Linux, an

enterprise-class support program for the Linux operating system.

My name is _________________ and I’m a

______________________ with Oracle.
Agenda

• Oracle’s Commitment to Linux

• Oracle Unbreakable Linux Support
• Q&A

Just a quick rundown of today’s agenda…

We’re going to focus on Oracle Unbreakable Linux, including why we’re

offering enterprise-class support for Linux, customer success with the
support program, answers to commonly asked questions, and at the
end we’ll have time to answer any further questions you might have.
Oracle’s Investment in Linux
1998 Oracle first commercial database on Linux
• Other ISV’s then began porting their applications to Linux
1999 Investments in multiple Linux startups
• Red Hat, Miracle Linux, VA Linux
2002 Contributes cluster file system to Linux

Unbreakable Linux program
• Oracle commits to fix Priority 1 Linux Bugs
• Oracle gives Free Linux patches to customers and vendors
2004 Oracle sponsors Linux security certification
• Linux gets certified by government for use in secure
systems

First of all, Linux isn’t something new to Oracle—on the contrary—

Oracle has a nearly decade-long commitment to Linux, starting in 1998
when we released the first commercial relational database on Linux.

In 2002, we launched the initial Unbreakable Linux program,

assuring customers that Oracle is backing Linux as an
operating system—furthering our dedication and commitment
to Linux as an important platform that’s enterprise-ready, and
a great choice to run Oracle products on.

Some customers at that time were concerned about the

longevity of smaller Linux distribution vendors so Oracle
decided to provide dedicated engineering teams to make
Linux better and dedicated support teams to ensure that if
there are issues we’ll we work to fix them.

Oracle has been able to provide bug fixes for Red Hat, in
most cases, to customers for the last four years, and
maintain compatibility, which proves we’re not breaking any
compatibility with Red Hat.
