Introduction
Nestle is the world’s largest food and beverage company. Nestle began in Vevey, Switzerland, in
1867 when founder Henri Nestle creates one of the first infant foods in response to the need for a
healthy and affordable product to serve as an alternative for months who could not breastfeed
their babies. He called his product Farine Lactee Henri Nestle. Presently it has more than 2000
brands across the globe with 352000 employers in 192 countries. Nestle’s mission of "Good
Food, Good Life" is to provide consumers with the best tasting, most nutritious choices in a wide
range of food and beverage categories and eating occasions, from morning to night.
Nestle started operating in India in 1912 as The Nestle Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company
Limited. On 28th March 1959, Nestle was incorporated at New Delhi. Nestle India manufactures
products of truly international quality under internationally famous brand names such as
Nescafe, Maggi, Milky bar, Kit Kat, Bar-One, Milkmaid and Nestea; and in recent years the
company has also introduced products of daily consumption and use such as Nestle Milk, Nestle
Slim Milk, Nestle Dahi and Nestle Jeera Raita. During the year 1987 installation of a new factory
at Nanjangud (Karnataka), for the manufacture of instant coffee was in progress. On 24 th March
1989, the name of the company was changed from `Food Specialties Ltd.' to `Nestle India Ltd.'
in 1990, the company entered into the chocolate business. In the year 1991, the company issued
10,00,000-14% secured redeemable non-convertible debentures of Rs. 100 each to Infrastructure
Leasing and Financial Services Ltd., In 1993, Samalkha factory was commissioned during the
year and underwent expansion for cereal based products. In 1995, Chennai-based Indian Food
Fermentations tied up with Nestle India Ltd., to market its dosa and vada batter in consumer
pack, in the country. Nestle has set up a parallel distribution network across the country in 1998.
In the year 1999, the company has entered into a 10-year agreement with Camp co in “February
1990” for manufacture and supply of bulk quantity of chocolates and cocoa products. The
company has also set up a special cold chain for product distribution in select retail outlets.
Nestle entered the domestic bottled water business in the year 2000. In 2002, Nestle India Ltd.,
ties up with Nilgiris to co-brand various dairy products like dahi, paneer, ghee and possibly milk
-Launches a throat lozenge branded Acti-V to compete against Procter & Gamble's Vicks cough.
Nestle India said on June 24, 2004, it has signed Rani Mukherjee as brand ambassador for its
chocolate brand Nestle Munch. In 2009, Nestle India Board Approves proposal to acquire
Healthcare Nutrition Business of Speciality Foods. Nestle India commences export of noodles,
sauces from New Mangalore Port in 2013. Same year its acquisition of 26% minority stake in
Indocon Agro and Allied Activities Private Limited. In 2017, Nestle India extends support to
Girl Child Education in Partnership with Nanhi Kali.
With a history of 105 years in India, today, Nestle has 8 factories, 5 offices, and 1 global
research centre, a presence across more than 3.5 million outlets nationwide, 7,588 direct
employees. In 1961 Nestle set up its first factory in Moga, Punjab. Then, they set up their second
plant in the year of 1967 at Choladi in Tamilnadu. In 1989, it set up its third factory in
Nanjangud, Karnataka. In the year 1993, they set up a factory at Samalkha in Haryana. In 1995,
Nestle set up its fifth factory at Ponda in Goa and 1997 another plant set up in Goa at Bicholim.
The company set up its seventh factory at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand in 2006. In 2012, Nestle
opened a new plant at Tahliwal in Himachal Pradesh.

Beverages
Coffee acts as a brain-booster for humans. It contains caffeine that stimulates hormones and our

Nescafe – it is a brand of coffee. It comes in various forms they are, Nescafe Sunrise,

how Nescafe announced its entry into India, in 1963. In 2000, Nestle India Ltd. to launch
Nescafe Gold and Nescafe Gold Decaffeinated. The company has recently launched
Nescafe Ready-to-Drink. This beverage is available in three exciting flavors customized
specifically for the Indian palate: Chilled Latte, Hazelnut and Intense Cafe. In the instant
coffee market Nescafe holds a 56% of market share.
Nestea – it is an iced tea and cold beverage solution. Manufactured by The Coca-Cola
Company and distributed by Nestle's beverage department. Since the start of 2017, Nestle
and Coca-Cola agreed to end the iced tea Nestea joint venture after 16 years of
collaboration. Then Nestle launched the new recipe sources its tea leaves from Nilgiri,
India.
