Feasibility Study on Kakanin Shop
INTRODUCTION

The Philippines is well known for its delicious food. Among these foods is
what we call kakanin – native delicacies that are served as desserts. Each region
cultivates their own delicacies throughout their history. No party or celebration is
complete without these Filipino desserts. Kakanins play vital part of the Filipino food
culture. It is usually presented on special occasions such as weddings, birthdays,
anniversaries, and fiesta. No celebration is complete without these kakanins being
served in the table. They are popular during the Christmas seasons and All Souls
Day. Most food that is being cooked and prepared are made from glutinous rice (Pilit
or Malagkit) –a type of rice grown mainly in Southeast and East Asia, which has
opaque grains, low amylose content, much stickier and gooey when cooked than
ordinary rice that has become a staple food for many Asian countries. They can be
very sweet and they are always favorites for the young and old alike. A lot of them
show the Spanish influence in the country.

At the present, kakanins are still visible and loved by many; the main reason
our group decided to pursue this business since in the area, we rarely see stores
that serve sweet delicacies and there are people who find these in the market.
Usually, we can only buy this on street vendors and a lot of Filipinos who are
classified as “senior citizens” know how to make these desserts as they have already
become part of the Philippine traditions.

In this connection, Tomasino’s Kakanin Republic offers 8 varieties of native

delicacies that conjure feelings of happiness and satisfy the needs of customers.
This business promotes food quality and it carries the history that’s as rich and
deeply-rooted in our culture as the delicacy it identifies which originally made in the
Philippines.
