RP 2 Recycling Project Solution 11-12 PDF

The recycling project involves 9 activities: planning, funding, permits, staffing, land acquisition, factory construction, supply of equipment, installation of equipment, and a trial run. The activities must be completed in a specific sequence with some activities requiring the completion of predecessor activities. For example, factory construction requires the completion of funding, permits, and land acquisition. The project is estimated to take 23 months to complete from planning to the final trial run.

THE RECYCLING PROJECT

1. Project Activities (Work Breakdown Structure)

The project comprises several separate categories of activities. Of course the

physical/technological activities are important so we will start with them:
• Land acquisition for the factory
• Constructing the ‘factory’ (actually quite a small building)
• Supply of the equipment for processing the used engine oil
• Installing the equipment in the factory

Alongside these are a range of institutional activities, without which the project can
not be implemented or operated
• Gaining all the necessary permits and licenses
• Staffing for the factory

There are also a range of project management activities which need to be

undertaken:
• Project planning and design (the start activity)
• Arranging funding for the project
• Trial run for the completed project (the final activity)

In summary, the project comprises the following activities:

a. land acquisition
b. factory construction
c. supply of equipment
d. installation of equipment
e. permits
f. staffing
g. planning
h. funding
i. trial run

Of course, each of these activities could itself be broken down into a number of
constituent sub-activities or tasks.
