A JOYOUS MOMENT
Joy is considered to be an emotion, especially in the

field of positive psychology. At first glance, it would

seem as though being in a joyful state is just feeling

‘good’ or ‘happy.’ It’s a lot more than that. It evokes a

sense of curiosity in us, paving the way for magic,

creativity, and confidence within ourselves. With all of

these feelings within us, we give ourselves permission

to move out of our comfort zone and test our limits.

In a joyful state, we tend to be more open and

receptive to ourselves and others. It’s a very light

feeling that gives us the space to move and explore

without our fears, inhibitions, and worries hindering the

process. Gaining awareness and cultivating a joyful

state within us, will light the way and support us in

learning, developing, and enhancing the skills we want

and have.

Let us strive to stop and smell the roses! We need to

pause, reflect, and realize that we are our own source

of joy. It can serve to motivate, encourage, and

support us. Once we uncover the source of joy that is

already present within us, it will be easier to recognize

what it is. We can only look for something effectively By Rashi Agarwal
and consistently if we know what it looks or feels like.

What Does Joy Look Like

To You?
Grab some paints, a brush, and some paper and sit in a comfortable place that gets

your creative juices flowing!

Take a moment to close your eyes. Think of a moment where you were filled with joy, a

moment where you felt elated, ecstatic, and excited; a time when you felt like jumping

up and down because of how happy you were.

Once that memory is in your mind, feel the sensations you experience, and think of the

colors you associate with.

When you think of joy, what are the colors that come to your mind?

Paint something with those colors to create a visual representation of what joy looks like

to you
Joy Check!
Every individual is unique in their own way. We will all have our

own little quirks that are our own. Gaining insights as to how we

respond when we are in a joyful state can make it easier to

recognize. An excellent way to understand an authentic, joyful

response is by speaking to people who have seen you in that state.

Sit with your parents, or call them if you don’t live near them. Ask

them to recall a moment in your childhood when you were ecstatic,

a moment when you were jumping up and down and excited about

something. Listen to what their experience was of your response.

After you have heard the experience, take a moment to reflect on

the event that made you so joyful (was it something you consider

to a big thing or was it something mundane)

Take a minute or two to express how you feel after listening to

that story

CELESTIAL CHARM
ANECDOTE

My family and I would go to the desert to camp for one night and our family friends. We would all meet at a specific point,

and our cars would line up, one behind the other, and we would be on our way to the ‘biggest adventure’ of the year. In our

minds (the kids), we were a bunch of explorers looking to conquer our campsite.

Once we reached the campsite, the kids would help our fathers set up our tents for the night and then start the bonfire,

after which we would settle into the evening. My favorite part of the trip would be when all the kids grabbed a mat or chair

and a flashlight, ready to climb up the highest dune around our campsite. We used to lay down on the top of the dune and

look at the sky.

The blanket of stars hovering above us was a sight that always took my breath away. The sky glittered and glowed with the

moonlight. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever experienced. I remember looking at the sky and hoping to see a

shooting star. Before you know it, I looked up and saw a star shoot across the sky. I blinked and lo behold, another one-shot

across. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and while that was going through my mind, I saw the third and last one.

I was in awe, and each time I think of this experience, it is euphoric. It fills every cell in my body with a sense of joy,

amazement, and wonder.
