Solve each item on a scratch paper, when necessary. Write the answer on the blank.
1. How many times smaller is 50 than 5 million?
Answer:100,000
5,000,000 ÷ 50 = 100,000 times

2. If 25% of a number is 50, what is 75% of the number?


Answer:150
Step 1: Find the base (B=P÷R)
B = 50 ÷ 25%
= 50 ÷ 0.25
= 200
Step 2: Find the Percentage
P = 200 x 75%
= 200 x 0.75
= 150
3. The average of Rosa’s savings on Monday and Tuesday was ₱ 50.00. On Thursday and Friday, she saved
₱51.00 and ₱46.00 respectively. If the average of her savings for the whole week was ₱ 53.00, how much
did she save on Wednesday?
Answer: ₱ 68.00
₱ 53.00 x 5 days = ₱ 265.00,
Money for 4 days = ₱ 197.00

4. Sixty-five percent of the teachers in grade 5 are females. What is the ratio of the male teachers to the
female teachers in grade 5?
Answer: 7:3
35 : 65 change to lowest term 7:3

5. How many times bigger is the least common multiple of 44 and 54 than their greatest common factor?
Answer: 594
44 = 2x2x11
54 = 2x3x3x3
LCM = 1188, GCF = 2
1188 ÷2 = 594

6. Consider the counting numbers from 35 to 55. Place <, =, or > on the blank. Number of odd composite

7. The product when a number is multiplied by 10.2 is 20.502. What is the number?
Answer: 2.01
20.502 ÷ 10.2 = 2.01

8. If 84 players split themselves into teams, how many more teams can they form by splitting into teams of 4
instead of teams of 6?
Answer: 7 teams
84 ÷4 = 21, 84 ÷6 = 14 so 21 – 14 = 7

9. I multiplied 1111x1111 and wrote down the product. What is the largest odd digit in the product?
Answer: 3
1111x1111 = 1234321

10. When Nena sells a poem, she gets paid ₱ 4 per word. If she sells a poem with 85 words, how much does
she received?
Answer: ₱ 340.00
₱ 4.00/word so 85 words x ₱ 4.00 = ₱ 340.00

11. Twenty-seven men can do a job in 15 days. In how many days can 18 men do it?
Answer: 22 ½ days
Indirect Proportion
27 : 18 = n : 15
405 = 18n
405÷18 = n
22.5 = n or 22 ½ days

12. What is the remainder when (11x10x9x8x7x6) is divided by (1x2x3x4x5)?


Answer: 0

13. What is the sum of the digits of all prime numbers less than 20?
Answer: 77
Prime numbers least than 20 are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11,
13, 17,and 19

14. Ten years ago, the sum of the ages of Ted and his twin brother Todd was 22. How old is Ted now?
Answer: 21 years old
Ted and Todd are twins so 22/2 = 11 + 10 years = 21

15. Every birthday of my life, I put as many peso in a jar as my age in years. I now have 120 pesos in the jar.
How old I am?
Answer: 15 years old
Just add the numbers start from 1 until got 120.

16. The ratio of grade 4 pupils to grade 5 pupils is 5:8. The grade 6 pupils are 75% of the grade 5 pupils.
What is the ratio of the grade 6 pupils to the grade 4 pupils?
Answer: 6:5
Grade 4:5:6 Grade 6 is 75% of Grade 5 = 6
Ratio 5:8:6
Grade 6 : 4 = 6 : 5

17. During a sale, an item was sold at a price that was five times smaller than its original price. How many
percent was the discount on the item?
Answer: 80%
1 –sold price
5 - original price
1/5 = 20% sold price, 4/5 = 80% discounted price
18. Kiel divided a number by 7 then multiplied the quotient by 5. She then subtracted 4 from the product and
added 10 to the difference. If the final result is the original number itself, what is the original number?
Answer: 21

n÷7x5-4+10=n

19. The sum of 4 consecutive whole numbers is 2014. What is the sum of all digits of these numbers?
Answer: 34
1st number = x = 502
2nd number = x+1 = 502 + 1 = 503 Just add the
3rd number = x+2 = 502 + 2 = 504 digit to get
4th number = x+3 = 502 + 3 = 505
4x+6 = 2014

4x = 2014-6
x = 2008/4
x = 502

20. If 1+3+5+…+99 = 2500, then 2+4+6…+100= ?


Answer: 2550
From 1 to 100, even numbers is 50 more than odd
numbers, so if the sum of the numbers is 2500 just
add 50, so the answer is 2550.

21. In the division (121 121 121 005) ÷ (11) the remainder is ________
Answer: 5
22. When a two – digit number is divided by 7, the remainder is 5, When it is divided by 9, the remainder is
also 5. What is the smallest possible value of the number?
Answer: 68
Find the LCM of 9 and 7 which is 63 then add the
remainder.
Or just multiply 9 and 7 then add 5 = 63

23. The ratio of Grade 5 to Grade 6 pupils is 5;6. The ratio of Grade 6 to Grade 7 pupils is 6:7. There are 55
in Grade 5. How many pupils are Grade 7?
Answer: 77 pupils
Ratio of Grade 5:6:7. If there are 55 pupils in Grade 5 it means that there are 66 pupils in
Grade 6 and 77 pupils in grade 7.
24. Sandra has few boxes of chocolate cupcakes. Each box contains 12 cupcakes and cost ₱63.00. If she
sells each cupcake ₱6.25, how much is her profit for selling 8 boxes of cupcakes?
Answer: ₱ 96.00
1 box contains 12 cupcakes cost ₱ 63.00
12 x ₱6.25 = ₱75.00 - ₱ 63.00 = ₱ 12.00 profit in
each box there are 12 boxes = ₱ 96.00

25. What is the next number in this sequence? 1,2,2,4,8,32,…


Answer: 526
The pattern indicated that the succeeding number is a product of two numbers before it so the
answer in 8x32 is 526.

26. What is the tenth term of the sequence? 2,2,4,6,10,16


Answer: 110
2,2,4,6,10,16,... just add the succeeding number
until you reach the tenth place/term.

27. A ball is dropped from the top of a building. Each time it hits the ground, it bounces to a height which is ¾
of the height from which it last fell. If it is dropped at a height of 12 m, how high does it bounce for the 4 th
time?
Answer: 5.0625m
Multiply the bounce of the ball by ¾ until to the
4th bounce.

28. On the first day, one tourist came to visit the park. If on each succeeding day a group of tourist with 2
more persons than the previous group visit the park, how many tourists will be on the 12th day?
Answer: 23 tourist
1 tourist = 1st day, 11x2 = 23 tourist on the 23rd
day.

29. A popsicle stick is 6 cm long. How many popsicle sticks are the same length as a 117-m string?
Answer: 19.5 or 19 1/2
Divide 117 by 6 = 19.5

30. When the clock reads 10:30, what kind of angle is formed by the hand of the clock?
Answer: obtuse angle
The hands of the clock shows an angle more than
900.

31. Mario has 60 kg of rice. He packed them into 4 small packs in the ratio of 1:2:3:4. What is the total weight
of the smallest and biggest packs?
Answer:30 packs
1:2:3:4, add the number (1+2+3+4=10)
60 kg ÷ 10 = 6 kg per number
Smallest pack – 1 x 6 = 6
Biggest pack - 4 x 6 = 24
Add smallest pack and biggest pack=6+24= 30 packs

32. Mary attends her ballet training for 1 hr and 45 min. After 20 min she attends her voice lesson for 2 h and
5 min. If she starts her ballet training at 2:30 pm, at what time will she end her voice lesson?
Answer: 6:40 pm
Mary’s ballet training starts at 2:30 pm
(hour spent in ballet training)1:45
(break) 20
(hour spent in voice lesson) 2:05
Just add 6:40pm
33. The perimeter of a rectangular garden is 60 meters. If the width is 5 m longer than the length, what is the
area of the garden?
Answer: A=218.75m2
width is 5m longer than length
Perimeter = 60m – 10m = 50 ÷ 4 = 12.5m
L= 12.5m
W= 12.5m+5m= 17.5cm
Find the area of rectangle
A = Lxw
A = 12.5m x 17.5m
A = 218.75m2

34. Alvin jogs around a rectangular lot. The lot measures 25 m by 50 m. How many rounds around the lot
should he jog to complete 1.5km?
Answer: 10 rounds
Perimeter = 2 (25m+50m) = 150m
To complete 1.5km convert to m = 1500m divide by
150m is 10.

35. What is area of triangle whose base is 12.5 cm and whose height is 3cm?
Answer: A=18.75cm2
Follow the formula A = ½ (bxh)square units

36. Mark glues together 42 cubes with 1dm edges to form a solid rectangular brick. If the perimeter of the
base is 10dm, find the height of the brick in decimeters?
Answer: 7dm

Volume = 50cm x 40cm x 30cm
Volume = 60,000cm3
60,000cm3 - 45,000cm3 = 15,000cm3 (not filled)
15,000cm3 ÷ 60,000cm3 = 0.25x100 = 25% not filled

39. Jose has rectangular prism made of wood. It measures 10cm by 9cm by 5cm. He wants to cut it into 5
pieces with equal volume. What is the volume of its piece?
Answer:90 cm3
V = 10cm x 9cm x 5cm
V = 450cm3
Cut 450cm3 into 5 equal pieces = 90

40. Maria cuts a trapezoid with bases 4 cm and 8 cm and a height of 5 cm from a 9 cm by 10cm cardboard.
How many sq. cm of cardboard were left unused?
Answer: 60cm2
Step 1. Get the area of rectangle.(90cm2)
Step 2. Get the area of trapezoid. (30cm2)
Step 3. Subtract the area rectangle and trapezoid
90 – 30 = 60

41. A rectangular field is 25 m by 20 m. If Daria runs around the field 5 times and she runs for 50 meters a
minute, how long does it take her to complete two rounds?
Answer: 18 minutes
Perimeter of rectangle= 2(25+20)=90m,
P x 5rounds = 90mx5 = 450m
450m/50m = 9minutes
To complete for two rounds 9minutes x 2 = 18

42. The diameter of a car wheel is 65 cm. How far will it travel in 10 complete turns?
Answer: 2,041 cm
Circumference= 3.14(65cm)=204.1cmx10 turns = 2,041cm

43. The perimeter of an equilateral triangle is twice the perimeter of a square. How many long is the side of
an equilateral triangle if the side of a square is 17cm?
Answer: 45 1/3 cm
P of square = 17x4= 68x2= 136cm
Side of triangle = 136cm/3= 45.333 or 45 1/3

44. An open-top box with rectangular base when laid has 12 edges. If the base of the open-top box is a
hexagon, how many edges does the board have when laid flat?
