Jesus and His other Miracles: Healing and Faith

A. Reports on Jesus’ Healing of People’s Maladies (Matthew 14)
B. The Sacred teaching on the Narratives:
1. Jesus Christ as the “Fulfillment “ of the promises of the Old Testament?
The old testament texts speak of a person in the future who will do miracles such as giving
cures to ailments and diseases. When Jesus came, He stunned His audience when He went in front
of them to read the passage. After that He told to them that He was the Messiah who was sent to
cure the illness and pains, to give it freedom to the oppressed, and to bring happiness to the
downcast.
2. Jesus is capable of curing diseases because He is God, the Word made flesh
Jesus is capable of curing illnesses with just His touch or word even just touching the end of
His cloak. He has the power to do so without resorting to any medicinal intervention, because He
is God.
3. Jesus and Faith (Matthew chapter 13:54-58, chapter 17:14-20)
Faith is the Key elements in most of Jesus’ miraculous acquire healing, one should have
faith in Jesus’ capabilities/ powers without Faith in Him, healing is impossible.
4.Jesus in His pity and Mercy ( Matthew, chapter 14, John 5)
There were, however, reported instances that Jesus did not demand any “faith” whatsoever,
but due to His “pity/mercy” a miracle cure became possible.
5. Faith in Jesus in His Divine mercy pushes to beg miracles
If we put “faith” and “Jesus” “mercy” together, we have the power of prayer, we talked to God.
Four varied ways of praying:
1.Praising God
2. Thanking God for the blessings we received
3. asking God for pardon for sins/mistakes/errors done
4. Beseeching God for particular graces
6. Sometimes, Jesus brings forth a miraculous cure through the works of other people.
It is enough for God that there is faith in the people surrounding the person who needs the
cure. Through their faith, God will express His mercy and pity. As community, we pray for the
needs of others. We pray for the needs of our friends and their loved ones.

ACTIVITY:
1. Choose only one from the three activities.

a. Write the experienced miracle of cure you have been asking incessantly from God, e.g.
the cure of the illness of your parents, grandparent, sibling, friend, or anyone you know.
You are to share this with everyone in the class so that they too may pray for the miracle
you are asking.
b. Interview your parents and ask them of their experiences concerning a miracle of cure
they have asked from God and have been granted through constant prayer. Write the
interview and report it in class.

c. Write a letter of consolation to someone you know who is suffering from malignant
disease (cancer patients)or somebody who is suffering due to a recent lost or passing
away of someone. Share your thoughts/reflection with the class.

2.To acquire healing, one should have faith in Jesus’ capabilities/powers. Without faith in
Him, healing is impossible. Explain.
3. Do you believe that God has plans for each one of us, and fulfills them in His own time?
Prove your point by concrete example.

Jesus and His Transfiguration

Narration of the Report on Jesus’ Healing of People’s Maladies

Discuss the Sacred Teachings on the Narrative
1. The presence of Moses and Elijah speaks of the fulfillment of the prophecies in Jesus.
(Deuteronomy 8 : 15-18, Malachi chapter 3 23-24)
- Elijah and Moses are considered as the two most important prophets who are expected to return on
earth.
Moses-the giver of the Law
Elijah – was the powerful prophet who fought for monotheism in the times when the Judaic faith
was in great struggle from within the people of God.
2. The presence of Moses and Elijah also points out to Jesus as the fullness of the Sacred
Scriptures.
-Moses represents the Law which contains the first five books of the Sacred Scriptures, while
Elijah represents the prophets which contain the rest books of the Sacred Scripture (Historical
books from Joshua to the so-called Minor Prophets)
-with both Moses and Elijah representing the whole of the Sacred Scriptures, it only means that
the Sacred Scriptures now points to the person to whom it refers to obtain a place in the
Kingdom of God.

3. The voice from heaven is the voice of God the father who introduces His beloved Son to
maintain witnesses. (i.e., St. Peter, St .John and James.) (Matthew 3: 13-30)
-In various moments, the Father in heaven reveals His presence and through a voice points
back to His beloved Son, Jesus, so that everyone may know the truth: Jesus is the Son of the
Father in heaven
4.The will of the Father in heaven is for everyone to listen to His Son. (Matthew 17: 1-5
-The will of the Father is clear: He wants everyone to listen to His Son. This is because Jesus only
speaks of the truth. He tells us the ways to reach heaven, to be with the Father who lives in heaven
5.The Transfiguration of Jesus, i.e. changing in dazzling white, speaks of divinity concealed in His
humanity.
-Transfiguration speaks about the divinity of Jesus that is concealed in His humanity. Jesus
appears to be like them, a human being. And such an observation is true, for He is truly Human.
- The “dazzling white” that Jesus manifested speaks of the heavenly world that has not been under
the control of darkness (sin). It is the dazzle of a heart so pure and filled with love.
- Deep within our hearts is a “dazzle” (Kindness and purity) that shines through our true nature.
We are all good people. We are all sons and daughters of God. Such dazzling, however, is
covered by our human frailty, our human sinfulness, and our human errors. If we could only help
each other, we can let the “dazzle” in our hearts manifest our true children of God.

ACTIVITY:
1. Why is Jesus Transfiguration significant for us Christians?
2. What does this transfiguration teach about who Jesus is?
3. Note the greatest Achievement in your life through flowchart. Backtrack on the events and remember
the significant people who helped you “shine” and accomplish these
