Tesla

Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 with a mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy by developing electric vehicles. The company's roadmap involved first producing an expensive sports car (Roadster) to prove electric vehicles could outperform gas cars, followed by a luxury sedan (Model S) to challenge perceptions of EVs, and finally an affordable family car (Model 3) for mass market adoption. Tesla now produces the Model S, Model X SUV, and Model Y compact SUV in addition to solar panels and battery products. While facing competition from established automakers, Tesla has a first-mover advantage in battery and powertrain technology that has made it the world's most valuable car company.
