COR9: 21st Literature

Elements of Poetry Answers
1.) Speaker/Persona The speaker in the poem is the author himself,
Tammy Ho Lai-Ming. In the second line of
the first stanza, he says, “more so than me”
and refers to himself since he is also Chinese.
2.) Theme The theme of the poem is cultural diversity
and how different each country is from each
other as describe in the poem in a form of
symbolism.
3.) Dramatic Situation The dramatic situation in the poem is the line
“Where are you from, father?”. Here, the
daughters do not really mean that he is the
father. It’s just because of Asian culture that’s
why the call him that.
4.) Tone The tone in the first stanza is monotone. The
second stanza and the third stanza is cheerful
since it was stated that “We laughed” and “we
cheered”.
5.) Figurative Language The poem used hyperbole by exaggeration
saying “He’s totally Chinese-more so than
me” and metaphors such as “Yellow skin is
black in the sun.” Overall, the poem is filled
with symbolism that interprets the subject as
an overseas Chinese worker.

COR11: Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction (DRRR)

El Niño, which means Little Boy, is a drastic change in climate that usually occurs in the
eastern Pacific Region. It is also part of El Niño Southern Oscillation cycle together with La
Niña. El Niño dries up the land and may cause drought within the food production of the country
since the land for agriculture is affected by this phenomenon. Moreover, El Niño can also cause
heavy rain, typhoons, flooding and fluctuating weathers between cold and hot that may lead to
animal disease outbreaks and disruption of livelihood in fishing. In a report made by Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as of January 2017, there has been 325M
USD worth of total damage and production losses in crops. 1.48M metric tonnes of crops lost,
including rice, corn, cassava and high value crops such as banana and rubber. 16 out of country’s
18 regions were affected between February 2015 and July 2016. Impact was strongest in
Mindanao where 27 provinces were affected.
COR10: Statistics and Probability

The statistical concept that can be seen in this

photo is the normal distribution’s graph which
is a bell curve. The figure is clearly balanced
within both the left and right side. Thus, there
is a normal distribution from each side that is
why it formed a bell curve. These are relevant
to me since now, I can apply statistics and
probability concept with every other object in
my household.

COR3: Media and Information Literacy (MIL)

Infographics have a better way of presenting factual information rather than plain text
due to our brain. Studies show that only less than 10% of non-visual sources are received by our
brain thus, among 90% left visual sources must be enclosed, infographics included. Our brain
tends to be attracted on things that appear aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. For example, in
studying for my personal experience, a lot of my classmates prefer notes that come with content
and beauty which helps them study better and be more encouraged. Another example is a movie
poster, which is the core of every movie advertisement, and can help attract viewers if the poster
excites and catches the viewers’ attentions.

COR6b: Physical Education (P.E.)

Sports is indeed a fundamental part of our lives. Not only does it help an individual’s
physical activity but also helps personality development. Factors that help in personality
development such as positive attitude, never giving up and sportsmanship are coming from
sports. Positive attitude and never giving up builds up an individual’s confidence and self-esteem
which also helped me during my elementary days where I have a problem with my confidence
during my friends and I play badminton. Moreover, when I played badminton I gain an amount
of respect for my opponent since he or she helped me grow within the sports field by competing
with me.

APP3: Practical Research 1

The qualitative research article talks about a study of emotion and sport performance and
extends the understanding of emotional dimensions in sport. The study aims to uncover various
relationships between social factors and affective states evident within the athletes’ account,
analyses the difference of the 3 respondents’ approach in accordance to their emotion towards
sport and to highlight the influence of qualitative method on research findings.
It is a longitudinal case study of emotion and sports performance. The researchers have
used an initial interview and a follow-up interview which were conducted as soon as possible
after each competition. Then, interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed within the
context of the study emphasis on emotions and performance.
Overall in this article, the researchers have sought to describe and understand the
perspectives of James, an athlete, and to actively instigate a reflective process in terms of the
future of qualitative research in sport psychology also because there has been calls for more
longitudinal case study work with elite athletes in order to identify the factors which determine
individual differences in zones of optimal functioning and the ways in which these differences
effect athletic performance (GOULD et al., 1992; GOULD & TUFFEY, 1996; HARDY et al.,
1996; STREAN, 1998).

STEM6: General Chemistry 2

In Crash Landing On You Episode 1, a korean drama in 2019, Yoon Seri fell down and
collided with Captain Ri Jeong Hyeok. Then, Captain Ri Jeong Hyeok ends up catching Yoon
Seri with the help of a correct angle and position. After catching her, the two eventually grew
feelings for each other thus forming a bond. This is an example of collision theory. First, the
particles (Seri and Jeong Hyeok) collided with each other. Then, both had sufficient speed since
Jeong Hyeok ran to catch her while Seri had sufficient energy since she came from the sky and
falling down will lead her more energy. Lastly, with the help of a correct orientation which is
having the correct angle to catch her, Jeong Hyeok catched her which then resulted in to a bond.

STEM2: Basic Calculus

s = f (t) = 5t2 + 2t +3

Step 1: find the first derivative of the equation

s’ = f ‘(t) = 10t + 2

Step 2: find how long it took to reach the maximum ?

height by replacing s’ with 0
0 = 10t + 2
-2 = 10t
t = 1/5 s

Step 3: plug in 5 into the position function to find the

maximum height
s = f (-1/5) = 5(-1/5)2 + 2(-1/5) +3
s = f (-1/5) = 14/5 or 2.8 ft
