STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Dear Sir/Madam,
It is with great pleasure that I am submitting my application for the International Master
Program in Polymer Science in The Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn
University in Thailand.

When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range
of engineering, technology and basic science courses, all of which tended to reinforce and
solidify my intense interest in Engineering. I have also had the opportunity to study a number
of subjects in the humanities and they have been both enjoyable and enlightening, providing
me with a new and different perspective on the world in which we live.

In the realm of Engineering, I have developed a special interest in the field of Polymer
Science and I really enjoyed several courses during my undergraduate and postgraduate
studies such as Mathematics-I & II, Physics-I & II (with lab), Chemistry-I & II (with lab),
Polymer Science, Textile Raw Material-I & II, Engineering Materials, Advanced Polymer &
Fiber Science, Instrumental Analysis of Textiles (UV, IR, NMR & Mass Spectroscopy),
Waste Management & Green Chemistry in Textiles, and Technical Textiles.

In the course of my postgraduate studies I discovered my passion for “Advance Polymer and
Fiber Science” due to its versatile applications in our life, and done my M.Sc. (Engineering)
thesis on “Fabrication and Characterization of Jute-Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyester Hybrid
Composites”. I also worked on jute fiber based polyester, vinyl ester, polypropylene (PP)
composites, E-glass fiber (woven and non-woven) based polyester, vinyl ester, PP
composites, PET felt based polyester, LLDP, PP composites, Jute felt & caddies based
polyester composites etc. with other postgraduate and Ph.D. researchers at the Institute of
Radiation and Polymer Technology, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Savar, Dhaka,
Bangladesh. Through these work, I have gained experience in research methodology,
analytical data consolidation and scientific skills. Throughout, I developed a reputation as
someone who learns quickly and works tirelessly.

I completed B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Textile Engineering Degree from Mawlana Bhashani Science
and Technology University which is a renowned University in Bangladesh. I obtained CGPA
3.79 out of 4.0 in B.Sc. and 3.49 out of 4.0 in M.Sc. The medium of study of all my academic
degrees was in English. Currently I am working as a lecturer of Department of Textile
Engineering at Khwaja Yunus Ali University, Bangladesh since January 2014, where I am
conducting the courses: “Polymer Science & Engineering”, “Engineering Material” and
“Textile Fiber – Natural & Man Made”. The medium of instruction is also English.

Truly I am extremely interested to continue my research in the field of Polymer Science, such
as polymer composites & nanocomposites, fully green composites, electrospun nanofibers for
biomedical applications, smart polymers & conductive polymers, and some innovative one.
That is why I want to pursue my MS in Polymer Science in The Petroleum and Petrochemical
College. I have two international journal and some international conference
related to polymer and fiber science.

I would like to work in the area of Research and Development (R & D) in University or
Research Organizations. It is in R & D that I believe I can make the greatest contribution,
utilizing my theoretical and practical knowledge and creativity as a Scientist. I am highly
aware of the superb reputation of your College, and visiting your university and college
website and YouTube videos and other online materials, have served to deepen my interest in
attending. I know that your excellent faculty and laboratory facilities are very suitable to
carry on innovative research activities. I hope you will give me the privilege of continuing
my higher studies at your famous Petroleum and Petrochemical College of Chulalongkorn
University in Thailand.

Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to your acceptance.

Sincerely yours,

(Subrata Chandra Das)
