Amazon is an American multinational technology company and the largest e-retailer in the world. While articles have criticized Amazon's demanding work culture, experts argue this is necessary for disruptive companies. As the company rapidly expands into new areas, employees are expected to work hard. Though the environment can be stressful, Amazon recruits only top talent and offers high pay and perks in exchange for strong work ethic, learning, and accepting criticism. While unconventional, Amazon's approach to performance and criticism has helped make it one of the most valuable brands globally.

AMAZON AS AN EMPLOYER
Amazon.com Inc. is an American multinational company based in Washington, USA. It is the
largest E-Retailer in the world. Amazon has also proved its mettle in consumer electronics, Payment gateway, OTT platform and its flagship cloud computing service AWS. It is one of the big four technology giants along with Google, Facebook and Microsoft, Amazon is world’s most valuable brand. Facts mentioned above definitely makes Amazon.com one of the most desirable companies to work for. However in the past several years, articles have surfaced on media describing company’s approach to inspire performance of staff, Depiction of Amazon as an employer in an article in New York Times in 2015 made headlines on social media, Article criticised company’s work culture. I do think that Amazon’s employer brand as reported by New York Times is sustainable. Amazon as a brand is a highly ambitious project of Jeff Bezos who is CEO of Amazon Inc. Jeff Bezos is a visionary who started his Amazon journey with selling books online, With ‘Blue origin’ his another company, Jeff Bezos wishes to send people to space in near future and make humans a multi-planet species. An Employee is reflection of his/her on boss. The pace at which Amazon is expanding its businesses will require its employees to put in more efforts. Article in New York Times criticises amazon as an employer arguing that employees are exploited and they are encouraged to criticise each other. Leading Technology experts like Twitter CEO Dick Costolo as well as venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and Keith Rabois, dismissed the criticism, arguing that such practices were part of what made “ Disruptive companies disruptive “. Jeff Bezos himself denied the fact that such practices take place at Amazon. Although Bezos did believe that employees at Amazon should work hard, have fun, enjoy the process and create history by being part of the new innovations. Behavioural aspects that the employer seeks here are strong work ethic, Learning attitude, acceptance of criticism and honesty. Employees are recruited at amazon by talent acquisition team. They undergo rigorous selection process, only best of the best are selected, they get huge pay cheques and joining bonuses. For People who are already working or have worked with a brand like Amazon have a good impression on others and it definitely helps them in future job opportunities. Along with these perks comes responsibilities. To contradict the same article which emphasises on the fact that the work environment being stressful at Amazon, Corporate jobs can get stressful for some people due to various reasons, People can work smartly and come with ideas to reduce stress at work. Amazon’s unconventional approach of making employees criticise others has definitely worked. It makes people analyse their areas of improvement. These unconventional policies have done wonders for Amazon. To conclude, Amazon Inc. as a brand has established itself as the most valuable brand on the planet earth, the vision of the CEO Jeff Bezos is far sighted. There are many people who are willing to work for Amazon and Amazon as a brand will definitely sustain in market.
