    II. DURING READING

    1. Why the story is entitled Beowulf?


    The story is entitled Beowulf because the story is all about the young
    Beowulf which according to my research the name Beowulf probably
    means “bright wolf” or “noble wolf”. A Beowulf is the one who achieves
    fames by killing a monster.
    2. Who is Grendel?
    He is the first monster that Beowulf kills. A man-eating monster descended
    from the Biblical Cain who represents evil and corruption. Grendel is a
    monster whose preference for darkness and shadows who lives in the
    bottom of the lake.
    3. How many battles did Beowulf face?
    There are three major battles that Beowulf fights against: with Grendel,
    Grendel’s mother, and the Dragon.
    4. Who is Hrothgar?
    He is the King of Danes. He has a great deal of compassion for his warriors
    and his people. This man isn't afraid to hide his emotions. This is important
    because at the time, according to the warrior code, a man was not to show
    his feelings publicly. He builds a mead-hall and names it Heorot for his
    warriors to celebrate success. Hrothgar is a wise and admirable king to his
    people, but lacks strength to physically combat his and his people's
    enemies, as he is an aging King.
    5. How did Beowulf die?
    Beowulf die after his fight and killing the dragon. The dragon bites his neck
    and its venom kills Beowulf.
    III. AFTER-READING

    The story you read is the compacted version of Beowulf. Expand your idea of the story by searching some
    details of the story and narrating it again using the graphic organizer below.

    Before the First Battle


    The loud noise from the celebration in
    the Heorot disturb the sleeping monster,
    Grendel. So, the Grendel decided to kill
    everyone in the feast. And this repeat
    over and over.

    The First Battle


    Until, Beowulf, a young hero, fight
    Grendel and ripped off his arm. The
    monster escaped and run down to the
    lake.

    The Second Battle


    Grendel’s mother run into the Heorot and
    grab Beowulf and crush him down.
    Beowulf survive and look after Grendel’s
    mother to seek revenge. Beowulf
    successfully killed the monster.

    The Third Battle


    The dragon was disturbed after a Hobbit steal
    something from him. And decide to hunt the
    thief by burning everything in sight. Beowulf
    fight the dragon and successfully win over it. But
    unfortunately, the dragon had bitted Beowulf on
    his neck that cause of his death.
