    1.A computer is an electronic device which accepts


    data,processes it and gives the final output.

    2.Different parts of a computer:A computer consists of


    various parts. They are Monitor,CPU,Mouse,Keyboard,
    Printer ,etc.
    3.MONITOR:A monitor allows you to see what you are doing on
    the computer. The Monitor looks like a TV screen.It is also known
    as the ‘Visual Display Unit’.The output on the monitor is called
    ‘Soft Copy’.
    4.CPU:The CPU solves problems and controls operations of all
    other parts of computer.The full form of CPU is ‘Central
    Processing Unit’.It is also called as the ‘Brain of the computer’.
    5.MOUSE:A mouse is a pointing device and used for pointing and
    clicking.It is used to select and open items on the
    computer.Pressing the mouse buttons is called clicking.

    We use single click of a mouse for pointing and selecting an item.

    Double click of a mouse is used to open any file,folder,program


    etc.
    To open a list of commands for the selected object we press the
    right button of the mouse.
    The mouse helps to Drag and Drop of an item is called Dragging.
    An optical mouse does not have a roller ball under it.This
    mouse has a sensitive light under it ,which controls the
    movement of the mouse pointer on the screen.
    6.KEYBOARD:A keyboard is used for typing.The keyboard
    has keys for alphabets, numbers and signs.Pressing the keys to
    write something on the computer is called typing.It looks like a
    typewriter.A keyboard consists of 104 keys.
    There are different types of keys on the keyboard.
    i)Alphabetickeys:These keys help us to write words and
    letters.They are ‘A’ to ‘Z’.There are 26 alphabetic keys.
    ii)NumericKeys:These keys help us to type numbers.They are
    printed as 0 to 9.There are 10 numeric keys.
    iii)Arrow keys :These keys are used to move the cursor to
    left,right,up or down.They are also called as cursor keys.A small
    blinking line in a window is known as cursor.
    iv)Caps lock key:This key is used to type in CAPITAL letters.
    v)Deletekey:This key erases letters from the left side of the
    cursor.
    vi)Backspace key :This key is used toerase the letter one by one
    from the right side of the cursor.
    vii)Shiftkey:These keys are two in number. They are used in
    combination with other keys.
    7.PRINTER:It is used to take a printout of your work on sheets
    of paper.The output on paper is called ‘Hard Copy’.
