DR Muhammad Asif Siddiqui MBBS, Fcps Senior Registrar Services Hospital & SIMS, Lahore

This document discusses hearing loss and contains information from Dr. Muhammad Asif Siddiqui. It defines different types of hearing loss, including conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss occurs when bone conduction is greater than air conduction, while sensorineural hearing loss occurs when the difference between bone and air conduction is less than 15dB. The document also describes levels of hearing loss from mild to profound and includes charts measuring air and bone conduction. Tympanometry testing of the middle ear is discussed along with different tympanogram results.

 Normally:
 Air conduction > bone conduction

 CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS

 Bone conduction > air conduction

Muhammad Asif Siddiqui 2

 Normal hearing 0-20 db
 Mild hearing loss 20-40db

 Mod hearing loss 40-70db

 Severe hearing loss 70-90db

 Profound hearing loss >90db

Muhammad Asif Siddiqui 3

1. If difference b/w bone conduction & air
conduction is > 15db = conductive hearing loss

2. If difference b/w bone conduction & air

conduction is < 15db = sensor neural hearing
loss

3. If only air conduction is given & hearing loss b/w 20-40 it

is conductive and if 40 onward it is sensor neural hearing
loss

TYMPANOMETETY
 Tympanometry is an examination used to test
condition of:
 the middle ear
 tympanic membrane

 Mobility of conduction bones by creating variations of

air pressure in the ear canal.

TYMPANOGRAM

A= normal B, C, As= Flat AD= hyper resonant

(Ear Perforation, (Scared tympanic membrane)
Otitis Media)
