Equivalent Uniform Weights of Wood Framing: Design of Wood Structures-ASD/LRFD:Sixth Edition

The document provides equivalent uniform weights for various types of wood framing materials used in construction. It lists the weights in pounds per square foot (psf) for wood studs and joists with nominal sizes ranging from 2x3 to 4x16 at different on-center spacings. It also gives typical dead load weights in psf for various roofing, ceiling, and flooring materials that are commonly used in building construction. The weights provided are intended to be used for dead load calculations in structural designs.

Equivalent Uniform Weights of Wood Framing

Weights are for Douglas Fir-Larch lumber (S4S) used at an equilibrium moisture content of 15
percent (the maximum found in most covered structures). The unit weight of Douglas Fir-Larch
equals or exceeds the unit weight of most softwood species, and the dead loads given below are
conservative for most designs.

*Lumber is ordered and priced by the board foot. A board foot is a volume of lumber corresponding to 1 in. thick by 12
in. wide by 1 ft long. Nominal dimensions are used to calculate board measure.
