Max. Marks: 30

Use Excel to solve the following questions. All the questions are compulsory. The weightage

of each question has been mentioned next to it.

Submit Excel and Word files both.

Note:

1. Solve all questions in a single Excel file. Please avoid using multiple spreadsheets

within the same excel file, unless necessary.

2. Please do not repeat the text of questions in your response sheets.

3. There must be only a single submission per group. Only one candidate should submit

the response files on behalf of its respective group.

4. Use the following format to name your files (both Word and Excel) before submitting:

Group<No.>. Example, members of group no. 5 will name their files as: Group5.

Q1. For the following data, construct a frequency distribution with six classes. (3)

57 23 35 18 21
26 51 47 29 21
46 43 29 23 39
31 42 52 29 18
28 46 33 28 20
50 41 19 36 28

Q2. In a medium-sized southern city, 86 houses are for sale, each having about 2000 square

feet of floor space. The asking prices vary. The frequency distribution shown contains the

price categories for the 86 houses. Construct a histogram, a frequency polygon, and an ogive

from these data. Interpret the graphs and discuss the implications. (2+2+2+3)
Asking Price ($) Frequency
80,000–under100,000 21
100,000–under
120,000 27

c) Compare and contrast the displays of the pie chart and the bar chart. (2+2+2)

Q4. A manufacturing company produces plastic bottles for the dairy industry. Some of the

bottles are rejected because of poor quality. Causes of poor-quality bottles include faulty
plastic, incorrect labeling, discoloration, incorrect thickness, broken handle, and others. The

following data for 500 plastic bottles that were rejected include the problems and the

frequency of the problems.

Use these data to construct a Pareto chart (by including cumulative percentage of numbers).

Interpret the chart and discuss the implications. (3+3)

Problem Number
Discoloration 32
Thickness 117
Broken handle 86
Fault in plastic 221
Labeling 44

Q5. The following figures for U.S. imports of agricultural products and manufactured goods

were taken from selected years over a 30-year period (in $ billions). The source of the data is

the U.S. International Trade Administration. Construct a scatter plot for these data and

determine whether any relationship is apparent between the U.S. imports of agricultural

products and the U.S. imports of manufactured goods during this time period. Interpret the

plot and discuss the implications.
