Nursing Skill

Postural drainage is a nursing skill performed to remove secretions from the lungs by gravity. It involves positioning the patient in different positions and using percussion and vibration to loosen secretions so they can be coughed or suctioned out of the airways. Postural drainage reduces the risk of infections by clearing secretions and improving breathing. The nurse evaluates the patient's tolerance to positions and monitors for complications like hypoxemia or changes in vital signs during the procedure.
