SANIGUARD-1000
Description
It is a Continuously Active Disinfectant ( CAD ), forming a Biocidal Anti-Microbial Barrier ( BAMB )
on treated substrates.
Actives in the product kills instantly by disrupting the cell membrane, eliminating any
possibility of mutation, adaptation or resistance. Saniguard 1000 does not promote the
development of resistant microorganisms.
Properties:
Mode of Action:
The reactive silanol groups within the antimicrobial bond to each other and to treated
substrates/surfaces to form a non-leaching antimicrobial product by the following routes:
* Reacts with available functional groups in the treated materials to form covalent
bonds;
* forms strong hydrogen bonds with ingredients in the treated material; and
* can be used as a plastic additive or as a nano layer coating on the surface of plastics.
Saniguard-1000 destroys microorganisms by effectively puncturing and rupturing the organisms’ cell
wall. By comparison, conventional antimicrobials kill by leaching into the cell, where they are
metabolized and interfere with critical life processes. This conventional mode of action has been
shown to cause microorganisms to mutate and adapt, becoming resistant to the antimicrobial.
Saniguard 1000 avoids this problem.
Saniguard-1000 p
rotects materials used in a wide range of consumer, industrial & medical applications
where microorganisms can cause staining, pitting, deterioration or foul odors.

Resin Compatibility.
Typical use concentrations of 0.25-0.75 wt% active on weight of the substrate being treated
Saniguard-1000 m ay be applied to or incorporated in-to manufactured products listed below for use in
industrial,medical & consumer settings.
Plastics, fiberglass, metals, glass, wood, ceramics, stone, porcelain, natural materials and composites,
including air filters for furnaces, air conditioners, air purification devices, automobiles and
re-circulating air handling systems; aquarium filters; automotive and vehicular parts; roofing
materials (tiles, shakes, shingles, granules, membranes, felt, underlayment and synthetic overcoats);
building materials and components (including siding, wallboard, wood and wood composites,
insulation and non-food contact cabinetry); ceiling tiles; concrete products; non-food contact conveyor
and humidifier belts; non-food contact countertops; fiberglass duct-board for air handling systems;
floor covering; flooring; general purpose (non-food contact) containers; furniture; bathroom and
non-food contact kitchen hardware; mats; plumbing supplies and fixtures; sheet and formed glass.
Nosocomial infections
(1) space is often limited relative to the number of patients, resulting occasionally in overcrowded
conditions,
(2) the materials used in constructing the hospital are chosen for their cost or ready availability, not
necessarily for their resistance to bacterial colonization,
(3) infection control practices and isolation procedures are often difficult to implement, and (4)
trauma and burn victims have compromised barriers to infection.
Direction of Use
Wear goggles or face shield, protective clothing, and rubber gloves when handling the material. Use
with proper ventilation.
Surfaces can be treated with the solution by brushing, dipping, soaking, or spraying until adequately
wet. After applying treatment, the surface should be allowed to dry at temperatures from ambient to a
maximum of 160 oC to effect complete curing of silanol groups and to remove water or solvents.
Curing of polymer may be accelerated or enhanced with heat or catalysis. For each application,
determine optimum application and drying conditions, such as time and temperature before use. If
desired, reapply antimicrobial if odor, staining and discoloration due to bacteria, mold or mildew
occur.
Incorporate Saniguard-1000 directly into formulations used to make end-use products, or dilute with
alcohol and then apply it to the organic and inorganic surfaces to give 0.01 to 1.0 percent by weight of
active ingredient.
Handling precautions
Safety information required for the safe use of this product is not included. Before handling the
product Safety Data Sheet which provides information for its sate use and physical and health hazard
information. The Material Safety Data Sheet is available with the marketing department and on the
L.N. Chemical Industries site.
Product and Life and Storage T his product may be stored up to six months in a sealed container.
Containers should be stored in a cool, dry area. Extended storage at elevated temperatures or exposure
to direct heat or sunlight could reduce product life. Keep containers sealed when not in use.
