​The geophone is an invaluable device used to detect enemy 


tunneling during this world war. It’s simple- two mercury discs attached to 
a stethoscope. These discs magnify sound by two and a half times when 
placed on the floor or wall of a tunnel, making it a 
snap to estimate where the German tunnels are 
and how deep they run. It’s also a blessing in that 
it gives warning to our side!
