LIVING IN THE IT ERA

IV. Assessment

In this assessment, you are able to explore and see how computers work with internet.

Activity #1

Modified True or False

Direction. Write TRUE if the statement is valid and FALSE is otherwise. If the statement is FALSE,
underline the word(s) that make it wrong.

TRUE 1. The Internet (capitalized as :n Internet when it first came into (widespread use) is
defined as a worldwide network connecting to a million of computers via dedicated routers
and  servers.
FALSE 2. The Client can modify the website content as well as add new information in it.
TRUE 3. Servers are computers work like electronic filing cabinets that store information
and send it when clients request so.
FALSE 4. Web server is a document that contains text, graphics, audio (sound), and/or video
accessible through the internet.
FALSE 5. Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) is machine that helps the Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server is a server that configures IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
specifically in giving names to each IP address up to its root recognition
FALSE 6. Chrome is the most used web browser with (90.6% share) as of March 2018.
FALSE 7. Website is the process of publishing original content on the internet. The process
includes building and uploading websites, updating the associated web pages, and posting
content  to these web pages online.
TRUE 8. The method of linking the telephones together is called circuit switching.
FALSE 9. Web publishing is a system that delivers requested web pages to the computer.
FALSE 10. Web page is a collection of related web pages and associated items, such as
documents  and pictures, stored M a web server.

1. DATABASE - A database is an organized collection of structured information, or data, typically

stored electronically in a computer system. A database is usually controlled by a database
management system (DBMS). Together, the data and the DBMS, along with the applications that are
associated with them, are referred to as a database system, often shortened to just database. Data
within the most common types of databases in operation today is typically modeled in rows and
columns in a series of tables to make processing and data querying efficient. The data can then be
easily accessed, managed, modified, updated, controlled, and organized.
2. CHAT ROOM - A chat room is a Web site, part of a Web site, or part of an online service such as
America Online, that provides a venue for communities of users with a common interest to
communicate in real time.
3. INTERPRETER - An interpreter is a computer program that is used to directly execute program
instructions written using one of the many high-level programming languages. The interpreter
transforms the high-level program into an intermediate language that it then executes, or it could
parse the high-level source code and then performs the commands directly, which is done line by line
or statement by statement.
4. DATA - Data refers to distinct pieces of information, usually formatted and stored in a way that is
concordant with a specific purpose. Data can exist in various forms: as numbers or text recorded on
paper, as bits or bytes stored in electronic memory, or as facts living in a person's mind.
5.PROGRAM - Program is a common computer term that can be used as both a noun and a verb. A
program is executable software that runs on a computer. It is similar to a script, but is often much
larger in size and does not require a scripting engine to run. Instead, a program consists
of compiled code that can run directly from the computer's operating system.

6. PROGRAMMER - A programmer is an individual that writes/creates computer software or

applications by giving the computer specific programming instructions. Most programmers have a
broad computing and coding background across multiple programming languages and platforms,
including Structured Query Language (SQL), Perl, Extensible Markup Language (XML), PHP, HTML, C,
C++ and Java. A programmer also may specialize in one or more computing fields, like database,
security or software/firmware/mobile/Web development. These individuals are instrumental to the
development of computer technology and the field of computing.
7. SERVER - A server is a computer that provides data to other computers. It may serve data to
systems on a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN) over the Internet.
Many types of servers exist, including web servers, mail servers, and file servers. Each type
runs software specific to the purpose of the server.
8. ROUTER - A router receives and sends data on computer networks. Routers are sometimes
confused with network hubs, modems, or network switches. However, routers can combine the
functions of these components, and connect with these devices, to improve Internet access or help
create business networks.
9. NETIQUETTE - Netiquette represents the importance of proper manners and behavior online.
Netiquette is the set of professional and social etiquettes that are practiced and advocated in
electronic communication over any computer network. Common guidelines include being courteous,
precise, and avoiding cyber-bullying. Netiquette is etiquette on the Internet. Since the Internet
changes rapidly, its netiquette does too, but it's still usually based on the Golden Rule. The need for a
sense of netiquette arises mostly when sending or distributing emails posting on social media, or
direct messaging.
10. FILE - A file is a collection of data stored in one unit, identified by a filename. It can be a
document, picture, audio or video stream, data library, application, or other collection of data. The
following is a brief description of each file type.
Documents include text files, such as a Word documents, RTF (Rich Text Format) documents,  PDFs,
Web pages, and others. Pictures include JPEGs, GIFs, BMPs, and layered image files, such as
Photoshop documents (PSDs). Audio files include MP3s, AACs, WAVs, AIFs, and several others. Video
files can be encoded in MPEG, MOV, WMV, or DV formats, just to name a few.
