How many Route to be Professional Engineer? And discuss each route.

There are 3 routes to be Professional Engineer:

i. Professional Assessment Examination


ii. Corporate member of IEM
iii. Route for a Professional Engineer from an overseas Regulatory Body

i) Professional Assessment Examination

The person must obtain 3 years practical experienced as specified in


Regulation 22(1) which must include the following terms.
First, the person must have general training that will provide a sound basis for
professional development for at least 2 years experienced and get a professional career
development and training providing wide exposure to the various managerial and
technical expertise in engineering practice for at least one year.
The 1 year experience training must be obtained in Malaysia under the
supervision of a Professional Engineer in the same branch of engineering as that
practised by the Graduate Engineer. Besides, Professional Engineers in other related
branches of engineering may be accepted with the prior approval of the board.
Lastly, must has passed a Professional Assessment Examination that
conducted by the board.

ii) Corporate Member of IEM

The Corporate Member must be from the Institution of Engineers Malaysia


(IEM).
The specification for the requirements as determined by the Board are the
person has obtained in Regulation 22(1) which must include the following terms which
are at least two years of general training that will provide a sound basis for professional
development and at least one year of professional career development and training
providing wide exposure to the various managerial and technical expertise in
engineering practice where the training must be at least one year must be obtained in
Malaysia under supervision of Professional Engineer in the same branch of engineering
as that practised by the Graduate Engineer.
The Professional Engineer in other related branches of engineering may be
accepted with the prior approval of the Board

iii) Route for a Professional Engineer from an overseas Regulatory Body

The last route to be a professional Engineer is by overseas Regulatory Body.

Firstly, the applicant need not sit and pass the Professional Assessment Examination
or be corporate member of IEM. Because of that, applicant shall submit to BEM a certified
latest Professional Engineer Certificate issued by a Regulatory Body of other country. Then,
the professional engineers status shall be check that it is equivalent to BEM’s professional
engineer qualifications eligibility. So, the applicant is not entitle to be registered as a
Professional Engineer if at any time prior to his registration there exist any facts or
circumstances which would have entitled the Disciplinary Committee to cancel his
registration pursuant to Section 15 of the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (Revised 2015).

After that, summary of practical experience not less than 3 years using company
letterhead certified by a professional engineer in same branch of engineering at which the
applicant did his practical experience and the applicant and has complied with the
requirements as determined by the Board of Engineering.
