Reactive Power Issues in Grid Connected Solar Plants

1) Solar power plants are struggling with issues related to reactive power and voltage control due to non-uniform regulations across Indian states. 2) The dynamic reactive power support at solar plants should be adequate to allow plants to operate within specified voltage variation limits, such as 97.5-103% in Telangana. 3) An optimal reactive power system for solar plants would include a hybrid of passive units for coarse control and active dynamic parts for fine control, providing higher total reactive power capability.

Solar Power Plants in India are struggling to cope at about 140 % of their Active Power needs, which
